Module 7
Erratic Motion
A car starts from rest and travels along a
straight track such that it accelerates at 10
m/s2 for 10 sec, and then decelerates at 2
m/s2. Determine the time needed to stop
the car. How far has the car travelled?
A car accelerates uniformly from zero to 12
m/s2 in 8 seconds starting from rest. During
the next 4 seconds, the car decelerates at a
constant rate of 11 m/s2. Find the following:
a. Velocity after 12 seconds
b. Distance traveled after 10 seconds
c. Total distance travelled after 12 seconds
The acceleration of a rocket is plotted as
shown.
When the rocket starts from rest, determine
the velocity at point B.
When the rocket started from rest,
determine the total distance traveled from
point A to C.
If the acceleration at point B to C be
replaced with a constant deceleration to
make the rocket stop at point C, what
should be the value of the negative
acceleration?
