Pump and Pipe System Analysis

The document outlines a problem involving two reservoirs connected by pipes, requiring calculations for discharge, pump head, efficiency, and power for Pipe 1, as well as determining the diameter of Pipe 2 given a specific discharge. It provides specific parameters such as lengths, diameters, friction factors, and elevation differences. The problem emphasizes careful unit management and limits iterations to three for calculations.

Q.1 (30 p.) Two large reservoirs are connected by two pipes as shown in the following figure.

Water is pumped from

Reservoir A to Reservoir B through Pipe 1 and returns back from B to A through Pipe 2.
a) By using the graph pdf provided previously, determine the discharge in Pipe 1, the pump head, the pump efficieny and
the pump power, if f1 = 0.020.
b) Determine the diameter, D2, of Pipe 2, if the discharge in Pipe 2 is equal to Q2=0.3 m3/s.
Note: Do not make more than 3 iterations and be careful with the units.
zB = 30 m

L2 = 20 000 m

ε2 = 0.00012 m
zA = 10 m B

Note that ρwater = 1000 kg/m3 and vwater = 1.0x10-6 m2/s for all questions.
