# Notes
- Appreciates craftsmen and art. This ranges from paintings to weapons. This would
normally put her in good standing with [[Karlisle]]. It doesn't.
- Is constantly scheming and building support systems for her goal - to allow the
Children of Hermaeus to open the rift, steal generations worth of knowledge to
uplift civilization, and then to either seal or destroy the rift. Her schemes are
done in a way that has a majority also benefit The Children; she's very careful to
always think of that as her first and foremost goal. She does her actual traitorous
activities in bodies protected from scrying and isolated from her network. You can
never be too careful.
- Enjoys a good conversation. Is willing to talk on semi-equal terms with those she
considers equals.
- [[Karlisle]], being her artifact's caretaker and main supplier of her
apparatuses, has previously backstabbed Morwenna and ousted her as seeking
information or services that could be heretical when Karlisle noticed it. Luckily
for Morwenna, her services are too valuable to lose, and the infractions weren't
too damning.
- Accepts that most of what she does is evil, and certainly doesn't object to being
ruthless. However, she does have a strong distaste for needless cruelty or
pointless collateral damage. The ends justify the means.
- Since her original body died in [[Volara]], her soul has been transferred to her
artifact. This means that any Morwenna operating independently of the network
technically is not connected to her soul. What does that mean? Copies of her soul?
Soulless imitations of her? Morwenna seems far too self-assured in her identity as
a hivemind to even care about these questions.
# Backstory
Morwenna was born in the spiraling city of [[Fargon]], a small metropolis of stone
towers and crumbling districts. She was an Aasimar born to no temple, no prophecy,
and no family that claimed her. Far too poor to make the journey to Thaldrin to
join House Sanctari, and no parents to look after her. She was raised in the lower
wards, in the shadow of power.
Her childhood was defined by silence and observation. She was never loud, never
reckless. Only precise. Her talents bloomed early—psionic flickers in her sleep,
instinctive bursts of hard purple weaponry and shielding when attacked. Her mind
was sharp.
At thirteen, after she dismantled a blackmail ring preying on her neighborhood, she
came under the tutelage of a one-eyed former spymaster named **Corven Thorne**. He
taught her logic, ethics, tactics, and control. Most of all, he taught her
utilitarianism: that a better world could be built only by those willing to carry
the weight of others’ ignorance and guilt. He called her _“surgical.”_ She loved
him like a father.
When Corven was murdered while brokering peace between two rival noble guilds that
had caught commoners in the crossfire, Morwenna found no justice. No outcry. No
vengeance. The city shrugged. They practically stepped over his body. His death
hardened her. If the world refused to change, she would cut it open and rearrange
it by hand.
At eighteen, she left [[Fargon]] with a band of adventurers. They found her sharp,
clever, dangerous—but kind. For years, she believed she could do good their way.
That belief shattered when they encountered the cult of Hermaeus.
The others saw a threat. Morwenna saw potential—not in the cult, but in what they
_guarded_. Whispers of Hermaeus’ library, of knowledge that could end hunger,
delete disease, rewrite mortality itself, change the landscape of the world. Her
party tried to stop the cult, to destroy it, and the cult at the time was spread
thin enough that they could've done significant damage. When she pleaded with them
to see things her way, they didn't listen; then she made the most painful decision
of her life.
She killed them cleanly.
She joined the cult soon after—not as a believer, but as a visionary. At 24 she
allowed Hermaeus to attune her soul to one of his artifacts, transforming her into
a living hive of hosts and joining [[The Chosen]]. Now, Morwenna exists in many
places at once. Every face that wears her will. Every mind that echoes her
thoughts. She is one will across many bodies, working tirelessly to open the gate
to the Abyssal Plane—not to release horrors, but to steal from Hermaeus the
knowledge he hoards. To bring it back. To use it to uplift a world that hates her.
And when the gate is open, she intends to close it again. Not as a servant of
Hermaeus. But as a, at least perceived by her, public servant.
