overview
› Replaces APP
› Higher capacity (per CAX):
– 8x10Gbps ports
– 2x40Gbps ports
› W14B:
– L2 Topology, same as APP
– VRRP configured on external routers
› W15A:
– Supports both L2 and L3 topologies
– Bidirectional Forwarding Detection
– Static Routing
– Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP)
› W15B:
– Virtual Router Support

overview
› A Cabinet Aggregation Switch (CAX) unit consists of:
– 1 CCIB
– 1 CMXB3
› Two CAX units are available in the Utility Subrack (US).
› Boards in the US are connected through the backplane.
› MS, ES1 and ES2 CMXB3 boards are directly connected to
the CAX units, instead of MS.
› Each CAX is connected to its respective SCXB in the MS.
Supervision of the US is done through those links.
› Inter CMXB connectivity uses 2x40G ports.

overview
› Things to be taken into consideration:
– EVO RNC R2 cannot be ordered with a previous SW level than
W14B. Downgrading the SW level is also not possible. OSS-RC and
Core nodes support and compatible with W14B is to be verified.
– EVO RNC R1 LTB is mid 2015.
– “Ethernet Link Aggregation” (FAJ 121 1395) is mandatory.
– O&M connectivity is different. Instead of the usual RJ45-RJ45 cable
that goes to the APP, a densishield-RJ45 is required to go directly
into the C1 EPB boards. CAX does not have any O&M ports. TSR
491 603, used for BSC normally, is one of the options. Length
needs to be measured between the RNC location and site
switch/router prior to ordering.

Network topologies
› Both L2 topologies used for EVO RNC R1 are still
supported:
– L2 on CAX + node-external L3 (Edge ports, VRRP in external
routers)
– L2 on CAX + node-external L2 (RSTP)
› New L3 topologies were introduced in EVO RNC R2:
– L3 on CAX + node-external L3 (BFD)
– L3 on CAX + node-external L2 (BFD)
– L3 on CAX + node-external L2 + connected Host (BFD + VRRP in
CAX)
› EIN 15A still recommends L2 topologies to be used, until
the support of VRF is introduced in CAX.
EVO 8200/RNC R2 | Ericsson Internal | © Ericsson AB 2015 | 2015-03-11 | Page 10
Network topologies
› CAX configured in L3 mode will require the following features:
– FAJ 121 3652: Bidirectional Forwarding Detection
– FAJ 121 3955: IP Static Routing in CAX
› Both features are introduced in W15A and part of the basic
features (not reflected in MO configuration).
› The features provide the functionality to forward IP packets
between IP interfaces on a node internal IP routers. Forwarding
is based on a routing table configured on the Cabinet
Aggregation Switch (CAX).
› The Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol (VRRP) is provided for
redundancy between internal IP routers. The IP route
supervision functionality (BFD) provides supervision of external
routes that is used to select the best outgoing path.
