Country: Switzerland

Committee: United Nation Commission on the status of women

Topic: Empowerment of women and girls in under developing states for sustainable
development

Empowerment can be defined as a "multi-dimensional social process that helps people gain
control over their own lives. It is a process that fosters power (that is, the capacity to implement)
in people, for use in their own lives, their communities, and in their society, by acting on issues
that they define as important".

At the international level, Switzerland strives to reduce inequalities and promote women's rights
via multilateral forums, bilateral dialogues and international cooperation efforts. Switzerland
aims to combat gender inequality worldwide, particularly via its international cooperation work

Switzerland collaborates with international organizations, governments, civil society, and the
private sector to advance women's empowerment and gender equality in underdeveloped
countries. It participates in multilateral initiatives and forums focused on gender equality, such as
the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the UN Women's
Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Switzerland also engages in strategic partnerships and
funding arrangements to leverage resources and maximize impact in women's empowerment
efforts
