Title of the activity: Sustainable Theme of activity: Sustainable Urban
Village : Reflection and Proposal Development and Smart Villages
Introduction
Sustainability in the use of resources is vital for improving livelihoods in
villages like Akeda Dungar, Jaipur. This report reflects on the level of
sustainable development in Akeda Dungar, their practices, use of sustainable
energy, and their effects on the socio-economic well-being of its residents.
1. Status of Sustainable Development:
Sustainability of Environment:
As a village, the residents of Akeda Dungar are quite considerate in the
conservation of environment and development of facilities without harming the
environment.
Conservation of Resources:
The residents of Akeda Dungar are quite conservative of the resources in the
village. They don’t waste resources like water, and electricity, and try to
conserve them whenever possible. While the primary reason for this is to save
money, the effect it has on conservation of these resources is apparent.
Sustainable and Clean Energy:
Solar energy is also used a lot in the farms, for irrigation purpose. Most of the
rich farmers have at least one solar panel in their farms. They use this clean
energy for farming and sell the excess to other farmers at low costs.
2. Impact on Rural Livelihoods:
Economic Impact:
Conservation of resources has a huge economic impact on the lives of the
farmers. The clean energy they get from solar panels saves them a lot of
money. Sustainable use of resources like water also helps them to save a lot of
money.
Social Impact:
The production of clean energy contributes to lower pollution, and contributes
to the well-being of the people. It also reduces their dependency on electricity
from the government which tends to have power-cut off quite often.
Environmental Impact:
Production of sustainable energy has a huge impact on the environment. The
conservation of other resources also leads to prevention of their excessive
exploitation and contributes to the future of humanity.
3. My Learning
Through this study of Akeda Dungar, I have learned that Sustainable
development is more than just a methodology. It is a practice and an ideology
that helps shape a society in a better way. It also helps to preserve a
community’s culture at its core, by preserving its ecosystem. If sustainable
development is not practiced in villages like these, they could lose their
heritage in the process of development.
4. Conclusion
Akeda Dungar’s experience shows that rapid industrialisation is not just the
only thing needed to increase development. Preserving the local heritage and
developing while conserving the local ecosystem is just as important if not
more important.
