Dear Diary,
What a journey it's been! I can hardly believe we actually made it. As I sit here on the boat, watching the calm waters drift by, I can’t help but
reflect on our incredible adventure through the Andes.
The beginning of the trip was anything but easy. I remember the moment we reached the top of that mountain pass—cold winds, rain, and even
hail! Within minutes, we were soaked to the bone, and I lost all feeling in my hands. Braking on those dangerous, winding roads was terrifying.
It was the kind of cold that seeps into your bones and makes every move painful. I honestly questioned why we ever thought this was a good
idea.
Still, there were moments of beauty that made it all worth it. The descent, when the roads were smooth, was exhilarating. Flying past
eucalyptus trees and farmland with animals peacefully heading home was like something out of a painting. Then we reached Paucartambo—
such a beautiful little town! The cobbled streets and colourful clothes made me feel like I had stepped back in time.
Later, we saw the incredible birds of the Rock doing their mating dance in San Pedro. Even though it rained heavily and the mud stuck to our
boots, watching nature in its rawest form was magical. I will never forget how surreal it felt to cycle through a cloud of bright yellow butterflies
in the jungle. It was like we were inside a dream.
Of course, things didn’t always go smoothly. Our bikes needed constant repairs, and we had to wait two days for a bus out of the village. But
something special happened during that wait—we connected with people. We had real conversations with strangers, shared stories, and
listened to their lives. One old woman told me how tourists often bring everything with them and leave nothing for the locals—just trash. That
hit me hard. I realized how important it is to travel respectfully, to support the places we visit instead of harming them.
This trip has taught me so much—about nature, resilience, and responsibility. The pain and struggle were real, but the beauty, joy, and lessons
were even greater. I’ll carry these memories forever.
Until next time,
— A tired but grateful traveler 🌄 🚴‍♀️
