Question One
i) Differentiate between descriptive and inferential statistics
ii) Differentiate between primary and secondary data
iii) Differentiate between probability and non-probability sampling
iv) Differentiate between statistic and statistics
v) Describe methods of collecting primary data

Question Two
a) Indicate whether qualitative or quantitative data is being used in the given scenario
i) A hospital collects data on the number of days it takes patients to recover after
different types of surgeries
ii) A company tracks monthly sales revenue across different store locations to assess
performance.
iii) Vunja bei shops conduct interviews to understand customers' feelings about their
shopping experience, product quality, and customer service.
iv) AB telephone company produce new smartphone and wants to determine the
customers preferences
v) A researcher is conduct a survey with 500 students and note the number of hours
these students use their phones each day.

b) Indicate which level of measurement is being used in the given scenario


i) A retail business tracks monthly revenue in Tsh and the number of products sold per
store.
ii) A certain hotel asks customers to rate their service as "Poor," "Fair," "Good," "Very
Good," or "Excellent" on a feedback form.

iv) A retail company monitors customer satisfaction survey scores ranging from 1 to 5,

A class was given a test in Set Theory and the following are the grades obtained by the students.

The following marks were obtaining by 30 students in mathematics examination:

54, 62, 48, 67
i) Compile a grouped frequency distribution for these data.
ii) Draw the histogram and a frequency polygon on the same graph.
iii) Draw a less than and a more than cumulative frequency curve on the same graph.
iv) Evaluate mean, median, mode, inter-quartile range, variance and Standard deviation

Question Six
a) A man motors from A to B, a large part of the distance in uphill and he gets mileage of only
10 miles per gallon of gasoline. On the return trip he makes 15 miles per gallon. Find the
harmonic mean of his mileage.
b) Show that the geometric mean of two positive number is equal to the geometric mean of
arithmetic mean and harmonic mean
