Punctuations

(Level 1)

Punctuations are the special marks we use to

make reading easier and more fun.
These marks tell us where to stop, where to take a
little break, and how to know what the words are
saying.

Period/Full Stop (.)

A period is a small dot that is used at the end of a

sentence. It tells us that the sentence is finished.
It is like the stop sign of writing. It tells you when to
hit the brakes and take a pause.

Example: I love to read.

Comma (,)

Used to take a small pause and list things.

Like a little pause button in a sentence, like taking a
quick breath before you keep talking.

Example: I have a cat, a dog, and a fish.

used at the end of a sentence to show
that it is a question.
Example: What is your name?

Exclamation Mark (!)

used at the end of a sentence to show strong

feelings like excitement or surprise.
like a cheerleader who jumps up and down
and shouts "Yay! Great job! Woo-hoo!"
