Dear Deniz,
I write this e-mail from Paris. It is my third week in Paris. I have a
fantastic time here. I don’t feel homesick at all. Every day, I go to French
classes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. I study hard and I do my homework every
evening, but I still don’t speak French very well.
I stay with a great family. They are very kind to me and we often go sightseeing with them.
There are wonderful historical places and museums here: the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum and
Notre Damme Cathedral. I take a lot of photos. The weather is nice. There are a lot of tourists. I like
seeing new places and people. It is very enjoyable.
The family’s house is in the city centre. It
is above a cafe. There is a long hall. On the right,
there is a living room. The bedroom and the
bathroom is at the back of the flat. The kitchen is
between the living room and the balcony. It is not
very big, but the living room is huge. The house
is very small, so I stay in the living room with the
family’s oldest son, Pierre.

Do you like animals? / What is your favourite animal?
Why do you like it?
Do you have a pet? What is it?
What do you do with your pet?
b) Read the text “Ubu and the fire” and answer the questions.
In the middle of a forest, a shy old man lives alone. He lives in a hut next to a wide river. His
name is Ubu and he is a very happy man.
Ubu loves three things very much. First, there is the Kroola plant.
This is a fantastic plant. It has big leaves and flowers. It has delicious Kroola
fruit. Then there is his friendly pet puma, Claw. It has beautiful black fur and
green eyes. Claw loves eating meat. The last thing is the monkey, Kiki. She
is energetic and intelligent. Kiki loves eating fruit and leaves, especially
Kroola fruit and leaves.
Every day, Kiki and Ubu go fishing together in Ubu’s tiny canoe. In the evening, Ubu likes
sitting with Claw and Kiki. He strokes Claw, plays games with Kiki and eats his Kroola fruit.
One day a terrible thing happens. The sky is full of smoke. Ubu hears the screams of
frightened animals and birds. The forest is on fire and there are flames all around the hut! Ubu wants
to escape, but the only way is across the river and Ubu’s canoe is very small. He can only carry one
thing with him. He can’t leave Kiki and the Kroola plant together because Kiki can eat the plant. Also,
he can’t leave Claw and Kiki because Claw can eat Kiki!
Ubu is angry with the fire. He wants to take them all across the river. He needs a solution. He
sits down and starts to think. Then he finds the answer! He leaves Claw and the Kroola plant together
because Claw doesn’t eat the Kroola plant. First, he takes Kiki across the river, and then the Kroola
plant and last. They are all safe and together!
