1-AVERAGE PENETRATION RATE

The average penetration rate is calculated from the following formula:

 COMMENT: The Chart shows that the penetration rate is nearly

constant in some formations. But the reality is that it is not constant as
we deal with the average penetration rate not the penetration rate for
the formation. Also, high penetration rate is noticed near the surface,
due to the low consolidation of the formations.

2-DETERMINATION OF THE ROTATING TIME VERSUS DEPTH

For every depth interval, the bit rotating time is determined as:

i= j
T cj=∑ t i
i =1

Where

 T cj :cumulative rotating time at any depth. hr

Using the following bit record table:

Depth, Rotating time, [Link] time,
m hr hr
0 0 0
440 24 24
1040 24 48
1470 24 72

2346 4 172
2612 23 195
2930 24 219
2984 4.5 223.5

 COMMENT: The slope of the rotating time versus depth is nearly

constant over the intervals drilled with the same bit.
