FEEDGAS STREAM
Mass flow rate = 100 tonne/hr of gas.
Temperature = 40°C.
Pressure = 27 bar.
Components containing.
74.5 mol% H2.
18.9% CO2.
5.8% CH4.
0.4% CO.
0.2% H2O.
0.2% N2.
LEAN SOLVENT STREAM
Mass flow rate = 600 tonne/hr of gas.
Temperature = 40°C.
Pressure = 27 bar.
Components containing.
50 wt% MDEA.
50 wt% H2O
ABSORBER COLUMN
No of stages = 15
Feed gas enter on 15 stage
Lean solvent enters above 1 stage
Condenser pressure = 26 bar
Pressure drop = 0.003 bar
Murphree vapor efficiency, Efficiency on all 15 stages = 0.4
Reaction from stage 1 to 15 is CO2-MDEA
Residence time from stage 1 to 15 = 5 sec
Maximum iteration = 200
75% Co2 is separated in H2 stream at 600 tonne/hr of gas.

See fig 2 and 3
Fig. 3. Input data for FCO2
Fig. 4. Input data for HCO2
In order to remove 95% CO2 e.g 5 kg must leave as 100kg is entering.
5/100 = 0.05
Fig. 5. Formula to recover 95% CO2
Lean solvent input was 600 tonne/hr.
To remove 95% CO2 the flowrate should be 831533 kg/hr for lean solvent.
Fig. 6. Result of FCO2 and HCO2
Now checking streams result of absorber.
3794.61 CO2 in H2 stream / 75932.6 CO2 in feed gas = 0.049, almost 5% which
mean 95% CO2 is removed in Rich solvent stream.
Fig. 7. Stream result of absorber
HEATER X1
Temperature = 110 °C and No pressure drop
STRIPPER
No of streams = 30
Boil up ratio = 0.2 and Reflux ratio = 0.1
Feed to distillate stream enters above stage 10
Top pressure = 2 bar and Stage pressure drop = 0.02 bar
Murphree vapor efficiency, Efficiency from stage 2 to 29 = 0.4
Reaction from stage 1 to 30 is CO2-MDEA
Residence times from stage 1 – 1 = 300 sec, 2 – 29 = 5 sec, 30 – 30 = 300 sec.
Maximum iteration = 200
COOLER
To cool top product of stripper.
Temperature = 10 and No pressure drop
FLASH
Temperature = 10
No pressure drop
Now checking the stream result of flash drum we have 94% CO2 and 99% water.
Water stream is again recycle to absorber column using mixer.
Fig. 8: Stream result of Flash drum Shows 94% CO2 recovered.
COOLER 2
The bottom stream has 50% MDEA and 50% water.
Output stream that is Rec1 is recycle to mixer.
Temperature = 40°C and no pressure drop.
MIXER
Now checking the result of lean solvent we see that H2O was 415734 in lean
solvent and in Rec stream is reduced to 414200.
This is because some H2O is losr with H2 stream and with CO2 stream as seen in
fig .8. Similarly for the MDEA.
Fig. 9: Stream result of lean solvent stream comparing the H2O and
MDEA for Rec stream.
