SC – 2003 Differential Equations BS CS/CybSec Fall 2023
Semester Project
Problem Statement
Present a mathematical model for a real-world physical phenomenon in form of an Ordinary
Differential Equation (first order/second order)
Presentation Requirements
1. The presentation must be presented with details explaining all important concepts of the
model equation as well as its parameters, variables and any constants involved
2. Quote any physical laws or rules involved, with their relevant details
3. Slides should be compiled using bullets, tables or diagrams rather than writing long
sentences/paragraphs
4. Order of the slides should include model equation, its explanation, one example, its solution
then analysis. Q/A session must be kept in view in total time of one group.
5. Grading would be done with respect to the following attributes in total of 50 marks
a. Clear idea of problem statement
b. Relevant and well-defined example with best-suited Initial or Boundary conditions
c. Correct solution of Governing Differential Equation and its interpretation
d. Analysis of problem
e. Smooth execution of Q/A session
Report Requirements
Students are required to submit a complete report of their presentation in their own words, including:
1. Objective of the problem. (5 marks)
2. Identification of type of governing DE and the solution techniques (5 marks)
3. By hand solution of the problem. (10 marks)
4. 3D/2D Graphs or other plots as applicable (can include screenshots). (5 marks)
Conclusions and analysis of the problem, its solution, methodology, and
5. comparison of results with other solution techniques if more than one (10 marks)
solution methods are involved.
6. Contribution section detailing contribution of each group member. (5 marks)
Difficulties faced during compilation of this presentation and how you
7. (5 marks)
overcame them.
8. Suggestion of any programming software/tool to solve this problem (5 marks)

Report compilation Guidelines
• Each report element should be documented under a separate heading.
• Report must not exceed 5 or 6 A4 size pages including table of contents as well as a single title
page with project title, student names, ids, section, and name of the course.
• Marks will be deducted for extra pages.
• Each page should be numbered.
Project Submission Guidelines
• This is a group project and carries 100 marks.
• A group can have maximum of 5 students.
• If a student wishes to work individually, they can submit individual project.
• Plagiarized work (from internet or fellow students) will result in zero marks.
• Deadline for complete project submission (Presentation + Report) in soft copy as well as one
hard copy of report is immediate after the presentations will be held.
• Name of your project files must be as per following format: Section_ID1_ID2_ID3.
(e.g. CS_fa23rollno1_ fa23rollno2_ fa23rollno3)
• A handsome Marks will be deducted in case of missing hard copy of the project(report).
• Late submissions will not be considered.
