TITLE:- Alcohol Detection & Engine Lock system with GPS

Tracking System
Abstract - Driving under the influence of alcohol is a significant factor in road accidents, leading to
fatalities, injuries, and damage to property. To address this problem, this project presents an Alcohol
Detection and Engine Lock System with GPS Tracking, designed to stop intoxicated individuals from
driving while also providing real-time monitoring for safety enforcement. This system combines
advanced sensor technology, a microcontroller-based control mechanism, and GPS tracking to offer an
effective solution for improving road safety.
The proposed system includes three key components: an alcohol detection unit, an engine control system, and a
GPS tracking module. The MQ-3 alcohol sensor measures the driver’s breath alcohol concentration. The output
from the sensor is processed by an Arduino UNO microcontroller, which checks if the detected alcohol level
exceeds a set legal limit. If the alcohol content is above the allowable threshold, the microcontroller activates the
engine locking mechanism, stopping the vehicle from starting or continuing to run.

At the same time, the system features a GPS module that continuously monitors the vehicle’s location. If a
driver tries to start the vehicle while under the influence, an alert message with the real-time location
coordinates is sent to pre-registered contacts, such as family members, law enforcement, or emergency response
teams, via a GSM communication module. This ensures that immediate action can be taken to prevent possible
accidents.

The system is executed through the integration of hardware and software elements. The hardware includes an
Arduino UNO, an MQ-3 alcohol sensor, an engine locking relay module, a GPS module for real-time
positioning, and a GSM module for message alerts. The software is coded with C/C++ within the Arduino
Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The system continuously detects alcohol levels and reacts
dynamically to promote vehicle safety. This project has several benefits, such as:
 Accident Prevention: Automatically avoids drunk people driving, minimizing accident risks.
 Real-Time Tracking: GPS tracking ensures timely intervention in the event of violations.
 Cost-Effective Solution: Employing low-cost components, making it ideal for wide-scale adoption.
 Easy Integration: Can be integrated into different types of vehicles, such as personal, commercial, and
public transport networks.
The Alcohol Detection and Engine Lock System with GPS Tracking presents an innovative and practical
solution for preventing drunk driving and enhancing road safety. By integrating alcohol sensors, engine
immobilization, GPS tracking, and GSM-based alert systems, the project offers a reliable approach to accident
prevention. This technology is cost-effective, scalable, and adaptable for real-world applications. Future
advancements will further improve its efficiency, making roads safer and reducing alcohol-related accidents.

IDEA:- Alcohol Detection & Engine Lock system with GPS Tracking System

The "Alcohol Detection & Engine Lock system with GPS

Tracking System " is an innovative technology designed
to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by
drunk driving. In the world the most of the road accidents
are occurring due to drunk driving. The drivers who drink
alcohol are not in stable condition and so, rash driving
occurs on highway which can be risky to the lives of the
people on road, also the driver.

The laws in India are currently prohibiting drivers to drink and drive so that the fine can stop them to drink and
drive. The Indian Ministry of Statistics reported say of road accidents is increase day by day.

Drunk driving is a serious issue that leads to many road accidents, injuries, and even deaths. To prevent such
accidents, we propose an innovative system called "Alcohol Detection & Engine Lock System with GPS
Tracking System." This system is designed to stop drunk drivers from operating a vehicle while also ensuring
that emergency contacts are informed about this situation.

The system works by using an alcohol sensor (MQ-3) to check the

driver’s breath for alcohol. If the alcohol level is above a safe limit, the
system will automatically turn off the engine, preventing the driver
from starting or continuing to drive the vehicle. Along with this, a GPS
tracking module is included to determine the vehicle’s real-time
location. If alcohol is detected, the system sends an SMS alert with the
vehicle’s location to emergency contacts, such as family members.

This system is a simple yet highly effective solution to reduce road accidents caused by drunk driving. It can be
implemented in all types of vehicles to ensure safe transportation and responsible driving. By combining alcohol
detection, engine control, GPS tracking, and SMS alerts, this technology can save lives and promote safer roads.
In conclusion, the project “Development of Alcohol sensing with GPS Tracking System” will be able to reduce
or eliminate the issue of road accidents due to drunk drivers, thereby, reducing the loss of lives and property.
Road Safety Officers may incorporate this system into their requirement which every vehicle must have before
driving on our roads to monitor the driver and thereby increasing their efficiency and that of other law
enforcement agencies.
