CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
This chapter comprised the project context, purpose and description
objectives of the study and scope and limitation of the study.
Project Context
In the current educational landscape, there is an increasing demand for
tools and systems that can help monitor, analyze, and improve student
performance. Senior High Schools, in particular, face challenges in effectively
tracking student progress due to the growing number of students and the
complexity of academic data. Traditional methods, such as manual gradebooks
and outdated software, are often time-consuming, prone to errors, and unable to
provide real-time insights into student progress.
The rise of web-based technologies offers a promising solution to these
challenges. Web-based analytics systems allow for the integration of real-time
data collection, analysis, and visualization, making it easier for teachers, students,
and administrators to access performance information anytime, anywhere. This
study proposes the development of a web-based system tailored to the specific
needs of Senior High Schools, with a focus on improving the efficiency, accuracy,
and accessibility of student performance tracking.
iii
The proposed system aims to create a seamless platform that records,
updates, and displays student grades and performance data. By providing real-
time feedback through visual dashboards and detailed reports, the system will
enable educators to monitor student progress more effectively and identify areas
where intervention is needed. Additionally, the system will empower students by
giving them direct access to their academic records, helping them take ownership
of their learning and make informed decisions about their studies.
Ultimately, this study seeks to bridge the gap between traditional
performance tracking methods and modern technological solutions, contributing to
the broader goal of enhancing the quality of education and student success in
Senior High Schools.
Purpose and Description of the Study
The primary purpose of this study is to design, develop, and evaluate a
web-based analytics system that enhances the process of tracking and
monitoring student performance in Senior High Schools. The proposed system
aims to provide a centralized platform where academic data can be recorded,
analyzed, and visualized in real time, thereby assisting teachers, students, and
administrators in making informed decisions.
The system will be designed to automate the collection and computation of
student grades, generate performance reports, and display visual dashboards that
iv
highlight student progress across various subjects. It will also include features that
support early identification of at-risk students and allow timely academic
interventions.
By integrating information technology with academic performance tracking,
this study seeks to improve data accuracy, enhance accessibility, and foster a
data-informed educational environment. The ultimate goal is to support student
achievement, strengthen communication among stakeholders, and contribute to
the digital transformation of school management practices.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective
The general objective of this study is to design and develop a web-based
analytics system that will enhance the tracking and monitoring of student
performance in Senior High Schools.
Specific Objectives
Specifically, the study aims to:
1. To design a real-time student performance tracking system
2. To develop a web-based dashboard that displays student performance
data using graphs, charts, and automated reports for better visualization
and interpretation.
v
3. To design a website platform where students, teachers, and parents can
securely access performance data and monitor academic progress.
4. To design an interface for school administrators and teachers that allows
them to input, update, and monitor student performance, generate reports,
and set academic benchmarks.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
Scope
The system is designed to provide real-time tracking of student
academic performance, including grades, subject averages, and progress
indicators.
It includes a web-based dashboard that displays performance data
through visual aids such as graphs, charts, and tables.
The platform allows students, teachers, and parents to access academic
records and performance insights conveniently through a secure web
portal.
Teachers and administrators can input, update, and generate reports
related to student performance and monitor academic trends.
Limitation
vi
The system does not include features for handling student attendance,
behavioral records, or extracurricular performance.
Its effectiveness depends on the availability of stable internet
connectivity; access may be disrupted in areas with poor connection.
The system is designed solely for academic performance monitoring
and does not integrate with external systems such as learning
management systems (LMS), grading software, or enrollment systems.

CHAPTER 2
Review of Related Literature
The integration of Information Technology (IT) into the educational sector
has significantly transformed how schools manage student data, track academic
performance, and support teaching and learning. This section reviews existing
literature and studies that discuss performance tracking systems, web-based
platforms, and the role of analytics in education.
1.1 The Role of Web-Based Systems in Education
Web-based systems have become increasingly prevalent in educational
settings due to their ability to provide remote access, real-time updates, and
scalable solutions. According to Koller, et al. (2015), web-based platforms have
significantly improved administrative efficiency and student learning by automating
processes such as grading and performance tracking. These systems offer
flexibility and convenience for both educators and students, enabling them to
access relevant data from any location with internet connectivity. Furthermore, the
use of web-based systems supports collaboration and communication among
various stakeholders, including teachers, students, and parents (Siemens, 2014).
viii
1.2 Performance Tracking and Data Analytics in Education
Performance tracking systems that incorporate data analytics allow
educators to better understand student progress, identify learning gaps, and make
data-driven decisions to enhance educational outcomes. In a study by Johnson &
Miller (2016), the authors highlight how data analytics tools can provide detailed
insights into student performance by aggregating and analyzing grades,
assignments, and assessments. This not only helps teachers identify trends and
predict future performance but also assists in developing personalized learning
plans for students.
Similarly, Baker (2017) discusses the importance of real-time data
visualization in performance tracking systems. By offering visual representations
of student performance, these systems help teachers and administrators quickly
identify patterns, such as declining academic performance or trends in class-wide
understanding of specific subjects.
1.3 The Impact of Real-Time Data on Student Success
Real-time performance tracking can have a profound impact on student
success by providing immediate feedback that promotes timely interventions. As
noted by Cohen (2018), the ability to access up-to-date performance data allows
students to understand their strengths and weaknesses, which can guide their
study habits and overall academic behavior. For educators, real-time data allows
ix
them to adjust instructional strategies quickly, ensuring that struggling students
receive the support they need.
The concept of real-time feedback aligns with the work of Hattie &
Timperley (2007), who argue that feedback is one of the most effective tools for
improving student performance. When delivered promptly, feedback not only
helps students correct mistakes but also enhances motivation and self-regulation.
1.4 Challenges in Current Performance Tracking Methods
Despite the benefits of digital performance tracking, there are still
challenges in its implementation. Many schools continue to rely on traditional,
manual methods, such as paper gradebooks or spreadsheets, which can be time-
consuming and prone to errors. According to a report by the International Society
for Technology in Education (ISTE, 2019), the lack of integration between various
educational systems—such as learning management systems (LMS) and grade
tracking platforms—often results in fragmented data and inefficiencies.
Moreover, even though many institutions have adopted technology to
improve tracking, a study by Thomas & Berrett (2020) found that many existing
systems fail to offer user-friendly interfaces or intuitive design. This limits the
accessibility and overall effectiveness of these platforms for both students and
educators.
x
1.5 The Future of Analytics in Education
Looking ahead, the integration of more advanced data analytics, including
predictive analytics, is expected to revolutionize the way educational systems
track and monitor student performance. According to Lee & Ryu (2021), predictive
analytics can be used to anticipate a student’s future academic performance
based on historical data, enabling earlier and more precise interventions. By
combining predictive analytics with real-time tracking, schools can move toward a
more proactive approach to student support.
Furthermore, there is growing interest in integrating learning analytics with
artificial intelligence (AI) to personalize the educational experience. As noted by
Wang & Ma (2020), AI-powered systems can identify patterns in student behavior,
suggest personalized learning resources, and even predict the likelihood of a
student’s success in specific courses.
