Definition-
Tourism is the act of travelling to places away from one’s usual surroundings for leisure,
business, or other purposes. It involves staying temporarily at a destination. Tourism helps
people relax, explore nature and culture, and learn new things. It promotes cultural exchange
and supports the economy. It is a major global industry connecting people and places.
Importance of tourism-
Economic Growth – Generates income and employment opportunities.
Cultural Exchange – Promotes understanding between different communities.
Infrastructure Development – Improves transport, hotels, and public facilities.
Environmental Awareness – Encourages conservation of natural and historical sites.
Aims and objectives of this project-

Types of Tourism
1. Leisure Tourism
Leisure tourism involves travelling primarily for rest, relaxation, and enjoyment.
People visit places like beaches, hill stations, and resorts to escape their routine life.
These destinations offer pleasant weather, scenic beauty, and various recreational
activities. It is the most common form of tourism worldwide, providing stress relief
and entertainment.
2. Cultural Tourism
Cultural tourism attracts visitors interested in exploring historical monuments, art
galleries, festivals, and traditional customs. Tourists learn about the heritage and way
of life of different communities. It helps preserve local art, crafts, and traditions by
promoting awareness and respect. Many tourists plan visits around famous cultural
events or heritage sites.
3. Medical Tourism
Medical tourism involves travelling to other places for healthcare purposes like
surgeries, therapies, or wellness treatments. Many people prefer India for affordable
and quality medical services, including Ayurveda and yoga. Hospitals and clinics
catering to international patients have grown rapidly. This type of tourism combines
healthcare with leisure visits.
4. Adventure and Eco-Tourism
Adventure tourism appeals to thrill-seekers who enjoy activities such as trekking,
rafting, mountain climbing, and skiing. Eco-tourism focuses on responsible travel to
natural areas that conserves the environment and supports local communities. It
encourages sustainable practices while offering tourists a chance to experience wildlife
