1. INTRODUCTION TO CPM
CPM is useful to treat joints of the lower limb after an injury, disease or
following surgery based on the concept originated by SALTER in 1970. [
To prevent stiffening, the joints have to be moved continuously which results
in the following.
a. Minimize swelling and pain after operation
b. Ensures faster recovery and shortened hospital stay
c. Prevents extra-antichlor contractures and adhesions.
The Continuous Passive Motion has been developed to help the patients in
regaining mobilization with the help of Continuous Passive Motion therapy. It is
used immediately after operation, it improves range of motion, reduces pain and
discomfort and hastens the recovery. It also minimizes the need for analogies and
their possible side effects and complications. Research has proven that passive
motion is actually capable for restoring joint tissues when applied on a regular basis.
It also offers improvement in fluid dynamics. Recent tests have indicated the CPM
therapy is an effective prophylaxis in preventing deep venous thrombosis following
the total surgery.

6. DESCRIPTION OF CONTROLS
RST
Is used to stop the unit at any moment and bring back to its initial state.
SEL
Pressing this key will store the blinking parameters in the memory and
Proceeds to the next screen.
S10
Pressing this key will increment the 2nd digit of the Treatment time.
S1
Is used to set the one’s position in Treatment time and Rest time.
Flexion
Is used to select the Flexion Angle.
Extension
Is used to select the Extension Angle.
Speed Control
This controls the movement of the Arm set.
Power Switch
Is used to Switch ON the unit.

7. OPERATING PROCEDURE
1. Before connecting the patient, connect the Arm set properly.
2. Insert the 8-Pin Plug (from the Arm set Knee point) to the Socket (Right hand
side of the Cabinet) as shown in the Figure.
3. Initially with out any load, Switch on the unit.
4. After Switch on the Equipment, if 8-Pin Plug (Armset cable) is not inserted
properly or if any wire cutted in the 8-Pin Plug the following message appears
on the LCD with Alarm sound.
* I N S E R T A R M S E T *
* * * * * * P L U G * * * * * *
Now Switch Off the unit, check the 8-Pin Plug is connected properly or any wire
cutted in the 8-Pin Plug. After inserting the 8 Pin Plug correctly, Switch On the unit.

Place the Patient’s Leg in the Arm set Tie it tightly. Initially measure the
approximate thigh height of the patient and set that particular height in the arm set by
using Thigh support Adjuster knob. Even though the degree (zero or any lower
Degree) is not correct, adjust the Length Adjuster knob. Now press the Select key.

Important Notes
When the patient is under Treatment and if Power Failure occurs, then the
Initialization of Arm set is not required.
In this Situation Switch “ON” the Equipment Press ”S1” Key immediately and
release it. This will lead you to the screen of “Treatment Time”.
