Book 15

Test 1 Task 2:

In some countries, owning a home rather than renting one is very important for people.
Why might this be the case?
Do you think this is a positive or negative situation?

Old age, monthly burden

The price of accommodation is rapidly increasing over the world. Specially purchasing a
home is not affordable to all. Analyzing the fact of the advantage of owing a home at old age
and less economical pressure at young age, I agree that it is essential to have a home rather
than one which is rented.

Firstly, a person have to be dependent on old age home or child’s home at elderly if own
home does not exist. For example, in Bangladesh, many people have to stay at children’s
home as they did not buy any home. If they would arrange a home for their old age, they
would have a comfortable life. To contribute in renting is a burden at this age.

Secondly, people have to allocate a large amount of their income for house rent which is a
burden for every month. For example, a national survey of India indicates that more than 50%
of income of 73% of people account for accommodation. Instead of providing rent for home,
if they provide installment for an own house, they can get a peaceful life after being owner.
Moreover, their children will have their own house since childhood.

In summary, it is important for people owing a house than providing monthly rent for
accommodation and be relaxed in old age. People should save money for buying a house.

Polished

The cost of accommodation is rapidly increasing worldwide, making homeownership

increasingly unaffordable for many. In light of the benefits of owning a home in old age and
reducing financial pressure during youth, I believe that owning a home is far more beneficial
than renting.
Firstly, without owning a home, individuals may find themselves dependent on old-age
homes or their children’s homes in their later years. For instance, in Bangladesh, many
elderly people are forced to live with their children because they did not invest in their own
homes earlier in life. Had they secured their own homes, they could have enjoyed a more
comfortable and independent retirement, without the financial burden of paying rent at an
advanced age.

Secondly, renting can be a substantial financial strain, as a significant portion of income is

often allocated to rent each month. For example, a national survey in India shows that over
50% of the income for 73% of people is spent on accommodation. Instead of paying rent, if
individuals put that money towards mortgage installments, they could eventually own their
homes, leading to greater financial stability. Furthermore, their children would grow up in a
home that belongs to the family, providing security for future generations.

In conclusion, owning a home is far more advantageous than renting, especially in terms of
long-term financial stability and peace of mind in old age. People should prioritize saving to
buy a house to ensure a more secure and comfortable future.

Model Answer

Owning a home is often considered an essential element of a dream come true. In fact, it is
often viewed as a symbol of success and stability. This essay will explore the reasons why
owning a house is so important to people and why this is a positive development.

One of the main reasons why owning a home is so important to people is that it provides a
sense of security and stability. Renting a place of residence can often be unpredictable, as
landlords may raise rent prices or decide to sell the property. In contrast, homeowners have
more control over their living situation and are not subject to the whims of landlords. For
instance, consider a family who has been renting an apartment for several years. They have
established a comfortable life in the neighbourhood, with their children attending nearby
schools and forming friendships within the community. However, the landlord unexpectedly
informs them to vacate the house because he himself has decided to live there. It would be a
very depressing situation for the tenant.

I believe this is a positive trend because owning a home provides a sense of permanence and
belonging. It allows people to put down roots in a community and become more invested in
their surroundings. Moreover, owning a home can be a good investment. Over time, real
estate tends to appreciate in value, meaning that homeowners can potentially make a profit if
they sell their abodes later on. For example, during the housing market boom in the early
2000s, many people who owned homes in desirable locations saw their property values
skyrocket.

In conclusion, owning a house provides homeowners with a sense of security, stability, and
belonging to a community, and can also be a good investment. While there may be some
minor downsides to homeownership, ultimately, owning a home is a goal that many people,
all around the world, aspire to, and it is a worthy one.

Test 2 Task 2:

In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read
everything they want online without paying.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Future – near future, foreseen future,

Ptinted-printer, paper man, hard copy of fook

Online- news portals, online platform, soft copy

Disagree

Will not be free-if they need to pay they would prefer hardcopy it’s a different feeling

Clickbased + promotional + advertisement

In the technology-driven world information has become available with light of internet
specifically any news or story can be found in online version. Though individuals can get
them with a simple click, there is still demand of newspapers and books. Analyzing the fact
of advantage of the different flavor and lack of disturbance of add, I disagree that nobody
will buy printed newspapers or books as they can get everything they want online without
paying.

Firstly, there are still some individuals who prefer to go through a newspaper with a cup of
tea or read a book alone. These activities are matter to them because it allows to spend some
time by themselves and keeps them away from device screen eventually they can read those
online free of cost. For example, one research conducted by Bangladesh mental health
association, reading books can provide a sense of satisfaction rather than reading
softcopies. Furthermore, online copies or news portal also ask charge or arrange a paid login
option and so it is obvious people would purchase books or newspaper instead of pay online
in foreseeable future.

Nowadays, online news portals tends to yellow journalism by providing clicked-based

contents with full of fake news or rumors which is another reason why people cannot be fully
dependent on it. Besides, online version of news or books contains advertisements which
distract readers and they skip it after being annoyed. For example, it is found that over 60%
of people skip add within 1 second while reading. This is to say, online platform is not
completely reliable to read newspaper and so it will not be the only way in near future.

In conclusion, there will be many individuals who will purchase books from shop or buy
newspaper from hawker to pass a quality time without using mobile and being disturbed with
promotional contents. All will not be completely dependent on internet for news or novels.
Reading hard copies is far more beneficial than using softcopies which is a catalyst to avoid
online version.

Polished version:
In the technology-driven world, information has become readily available through the
internet. Specifically, any news or story can be found online. Although individuals can
access these with a simple click, there is still a demand for newspapers and books.
Considering the unique experience they offer and the absence of disruptive ads, I disagree
with the notion that no one will buy printed newspapers or books because they can access
everything online for free.

Firstly, there are still individuals who prefer reading a newspaper with a cup of tea or
enjoying a book alone. These activities matter to them because they allow for personal time
and help them disconnect from screens, even though they can access the content online at
no cost. For example, research conducted by the Bangladesh Mental Health Association
shows that reading physical books can provide a greater sense of satisfaction compared to
reading digital copies. Furthermore, online news portals often require subscriptions or paid
logins, making it likely that people will continue purchasing books or newspapers instead of
paying for online access in the foreseeable future.

Nowadays, online news portals tend to engage in yellow journalism, providing clickbait
content filled with fake news or rumors, which is another reason why people cannot fully rely
on them. Additionally, online versions of news or books contain advertisements that distract
readers, leading to frustration and skipping content. For example, it has been found that over
60% of people skip ads within one second while reading. This suggests that online platforms
are not entirely reliable for reading newspapers, and they will not be the sole option in the
near future.

In conclusion, many individuals will continue to purchase books from shops or newspapers
from hawkers to enjoy quality time without using mobile devices and being disturbed by
promotional content. Not everyone will rely entirely on the internet for news or novels.
Reading physical copies remains more beneficial than using digital versions, serving as a
catalyst to avoid the online format.

Band 9 version

In today's technology-driven world, information is readily accessible via the internet, with
virtually any news or story available in an online format. While individuals can easily obtain
this information with a simple click, there remains a consistent demand for printed
newspapers and books. Given the unique experience offered by physical copies and the
absence of disruptive advertisements, I disagree with the notion that printed newspapers and
books will become obsolete just because people can access content online without cost.

Firstly, many individuals still prefer the tactile experience of reading a newspaper with a cup
of tea or enjoying a book in solitude. These activities hold value for them as they allow
personal time away from screens, even though they could easily access the same content
online for free. For example, research conducted by the Bangladesh Mental Health
Association indicates that reading physical books provides a greater sense of satisfaction
compared to reading digital versions. Furthermore, many online news portals and e-book
platforms charge subscription fees or require paid logins, making it likely that people will
continue to purchase physical books or newspapers rather than pay for online access in the
foreseeable future.

Additionally, online news platforms often resort to sensationalism, commonly known as

"clickbait," where exaggerated or misleading stories are used to attract more readers. This
trend has contributed to a decline in the reliability of online news sources, as traffic and
engagement are often prioritized over journalistic integrity. Moreover, online versions of
news and books are frequently cluttered with intrusive advertisements, which distract
readers and diminish the overall experience. For instance, studies have shown that over 60%
of users skip ads within seconds of them appearing. This disruption-free experience is one of
the reasons why printed media continues to appeal to many readers.

In conclusion, despite the increasing availability of digital content, many individuals will still
choose to purchase printed books and newspapers to enjoy a more focused and satisfying
reading experience without the distractions of mobile devices and advertisements. Physical
copies provide a unique and irreplaceable value that cannot be fully replicated online.
Therefore, it is unlikely that society will become entirely reliant on the internet for news and
literature in the near future.

Model Answer

The emergence of the digital age has revolutionized the way we consume information,
leading to the widespread belief that printed newspapers and books will soon become
obsolete. Some argue that with the increasing accessibility of free online content, there will
be no need to pay for physical copies of newspapers or books. However, I strongly disagree
with this viewpoint.

Firstly, while it is true that digital media has significantly impacted the publishing industry, it
has not completely replaced the traditional print format. Many readers still prefer the tangible
experience of reading a physical book or newspaper, which cannot be replicated by digital
media. Furthermore, physical copies are not reliant on internet access or power sources,
making them more reliable and accessible in areas with poor connectivity.`

Secondly, the value of printed materials extends beyond their content. Books, in particular,
have an emotional and sentimental value that cannot be replaced by digital media. For many,
the act of holding a physical book, flipping through its pages and smelling the ink and paper
is an integral part of the reading experience. Printed books are often collected and passed
down through generations, becoming cherished family heirlooms.
Lastly, the belief that online content is entirely free is a misconception. While it may be true
that many websites offer free content, quality journalism and writing still come at a cost.
Journalists and writers require fair compensation for their work, and without revenue from
paid subscriptions, the quality of online content may suffer. This is why all online content will
be free is a misguided concept.

Model answer 2

In today's digital age, the consumption of information has shifted rapidly towards the online
platform, and this includes the reading of newspapers and books. While some may argue that
print media will continue to exist, it is undeniable that online platforms have overtaken
traditional forms of reading. In this essay, I agree with the view that in the future, people will
no longer purchase printed newspapers or books, and will instead rely on online sources for
their reading needs.

One reason for this shift towards online reading is the convenience it offers. With just a few
clicks, readers can access a vast array of information from a range of sources, without the
need to leave their homes. In contrast, buying a physical book or newspaper often requires a
trip to a store, and can be time-consuming and expensive. Additionally, online reading allows
for customization and personalization, as readers can easily select the topics they are
interested in, and receive news and updates tailored to their preferences.

Another reason why online reading is likely to dominate in the future is the environmentally
friendly aspect of it. The production and distribution of print media contribute significantly to
deforestation, pollution, and carbon emissions. In contrast, digital reading is a more
sustainable and eco-friendly option, with no physical materials being used or discarded. As
environmental concerns become increasingly prevalent, it is likely that more people will turn
to online reading as a way to reduce their carbon footprint.

In conclusion, the future of reading appears to be in the online realm. The convenience,
personalisation, and eco-friendliness of online reading make it a more appealing and
practical option than traditional print media. While some may argue that print media will still
have a place in society, the growing trend towards online reading suggests otherwise.
Test 3 Task 2:

Some people say that advertising is extremely successful at persuading us to buy things.
Other people think that advertising is so common that we no longer pay attention to it.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Advertisement –explore new product

Alternative- online review

ompanies use advertisements as a marketing policy for the promotion of products. In the
technology-driven world, online ads have overtaken traditional ads on television. Some
argues that buyers are encouraged by ads before purchasing products while other believes
that people avoid advertisement because of it is common.

While it is true that consumers get information of a specific product or service from its
promotional content. For this purpose, celebrities or popular faces are hired for modelling to
attract their followers or common audience letting them know about the use or advantages.
For example, Bangladeshi cricket icon, Sakib Al Hasan launched a new product of an ice-
cream company named Za-N-Zee which inspired young children to purchase it. Though
people explore commodities watching ads, they often get it with less quality than it is
exaggerated during its promotion. Consequently, no one want to watch this type of
advertisements.

On the other hand, individuals do not entirely rely on advertisement as they are interested to
know the authentic review from user. With the emergence of digital age, there are enormous
alternative options to know about the product. For instance, there are a lot of YouTube
channels which shows unboxing videos of purchased product and provide review after using
that. In addition, there are brand promoters making contents filled with practical use of
product which is more trustworthy for common people. Though this type of promotional
method cannot entirely replace traditional ads, I agree with that many people skip ads while
watching any content online as it is time consuming.

In conclusion, advertisements is an ancient way of promotional but it is not the sole method.
Many people enjoy contents with review in which they are interested and so they just avoid
ads. Creators should more focused on the making of ads and the duration as well so that
people do not find it boring to watch.

Gramatical Correct version:

Companies use advertisements as a marketing strategy to promote products. In today’s

technology-driven world, online ads have overtaken traditional ads on television. Some argue
that buyers are influenced by ads before purchasing products, while others believe that
people avoid advertisements because they are too common.

It is true that consumers obtain information about specific products or services from
promotional content. Celebrities or popular figures are hired to model products, attracting
their followers and general audiences by informing them about the product's uses or
advantages. For example, Bangladeshi cricket icon Sakib Al Hasan launched a new ice cream
product for the company Za-N-Zee, which inspired young children to purchase it. Though
people explore products by watching ads, they often receive lower quality than what was
exaggerated during the promotion. Consequently, no one wants to watch this type of
advertisement.

On the other hand, individuals do not entirely rely on advertisements, as they are more
interested in authentic reviews from users. With the emergence of the digital age, there are
numerous alternative options for learning about products. For instance, there are many
YouTube channels that show unboxing videos of purchased products and provide reviews
after using them. In addition, brand promoters create content demonstrating the practical use
of products, which is more trustworthy to the average person. Although this type of
promotional method cannot entirely replace traditional ads, I agree that many people skip
ads while watching online content because they are time-consuming.

In conclusion, advertisements are an old form of promotion, but they are not the only
method. Many people prefer content with reviews of products they are interested in, and so
they avoid ads. Creators should focus more on the content and duration of ads so that
people do not find them boring to watch.

Band 9 Version

Advertisements are a cornerstone of marketing strategies used by companies to promote

their products. In today’s digital era, online advertisements have largely supplanted
traditional ads on television. Some contend that advertisements have a powerful influence on
consumer purchasing decisions, while others argue that advertisements have become so
ubiquitous that many people tend to ignore them.

It is undeniable that advertisements serve as a key source of information for consumers

about products and services. Companies often leverage the influence of celebrities and
popular public figures to promote their products, aiming to attract a broad audience by
highlighting the product's features and benefits. For instance, when Bangladeshi cricket icon
Sakib Al Hasan endorsed an ice cream brand, Za-N-Zee, it generated significant interest
among young people, driving sales. However, while ads can create initial interest, consumers
often find that the actual quality of the product does not match the exaggerated claims made
in the advertisements, leading to disappointment. This inconsistency diminishes the appeal
of ads, with many viewers choosing to ignore or skip them.

On the other hand, many consumers today prefer to seek out authentic product reviews
rather than relying on traditional advertisements. The rise of digital platforms has given
consumers alternative ways to research products before making a purchase. For example,
numerous YouTube channels offer unboxing videos and provide in-depth reviews after trying
out a product, offering a more honest and reliable perspective. Additionally, brand
influencers create content that demonstrates the real-world application of products, which
resonates (produce) more with viewers and builds trust. While these methods have not
entirely replaced traditional advertising, it is clear that many people skip ads while watching
content online because they find them intrusive (causing disruption) and time-consuming.

In conclusion, although advertisements remain a long-standing and essential part of

marketing, they are no longer the sole way for consumers to learn about products. Many now
turn to user-generated content and reviews for more reliable information. Advertisers,
therefore, need to focus on creating more engaging and concise ads that capture audience
attention without overwhelming them, ensuring that advertisements remain relevant in the
digital age.

Model Answer

Advertising has a ubiquitous presence in our daily lives, and companies spend millions of
dollars to promote those advertisements to enhance their brand reputation and increase
sales. While some believe that advertising has become so commonplace that it no longer has
an impact on consumers, others argue that it remains an incredibly effective tool for
convincing us to buy things. In this essay, I will explore both viewpoints and ultimately argue
that advertising is indeed successful at influencing our buying behavior.

On the one hand, some argue that advertising has lost its effectiveness due to its ubiquity
and common claims. According to this view, we are bombarded with ads everywhere we go
and are tired of hearing from every brand that their product is the best in the market. As a
result, we have become desensitized to them. We are so used to seeing ads that we no
longer pay attention to them, and they have lost their power to influence us. However, it is
important to remember that advertising is still a massive industry, with companies spending
billions of dollars each year to create and disseminate ads. Clearly, advertisers would not
continue to invest such large sums of money if they did not believe that advertising is
effective at persuading us to buy things.

On the other hand, many argue that advertising is incredibly successful at influencing our
purchasing decisions. Advertisements are designed to tap into our emotions, desires, and
aspirations, and they often succeed in doing so. By associating their products with positive
emotions such as happiness, love, and success, advertisers create a powerful connection
between their products and our deepest desires. For example, a perfume advertisement
might depict an impossibly beautiful model living a life of luxury, thereby suggesting that if
we buy the perfume, we too will experience that same level of glamour and sophistication.

In conclusion, while some may claim that advertisement has become so commonplace that it
no longer has an impact on customers, I believe that advertising remains an exceptionally
effective tool for persuading us to buy things. Advertisements tap into our emotions and
sdesires, and they create powerful connections between products and our deepest
aspirations.

Model Answer 2

These days, advertising has become increasingly pervasive in our daily lives. While some
argue that advertising is successful at persuading us to buy things, others claim that we are
no longer paying attention to it. In my opinion, advertisements are not as effective at
influencing our purchasing decisions as they once were.

Proponents of the effectiveness of advertising argue that it wields significant persuasive

power over consumers. Advertisements employ various techniques such as emotional
appeals, celebrity endorsements, and catchy slogans to capture our attention and shape our
perceptions of products or services. For instance, consider a television commercial that
portrays a glamorous celebrity using a particular beauty product, leading consumers to
associate the product with desirability and success. Moreover, advertising leverages
psychological principles such as social proof and scarcity to create a sense of urgency and
entice consumers to make immediate purchasing decisions.

On the other hand, the sheer volume of advertising that we are exposed to on a daily basis
has led to a phenomenon known as "advertising fatigue". People are inundated with so many
ads, that they have developed the ability to tune them out. According to a study conducted
by Hubspot, over 90% of online ads are ignored, and the majority of people skip or ignore TV
ads. With so many ads bombarding us constantly, it's no surprise that we have become
desensitized to them. Secondly, consumers today are more sceptical of advertising claims
than ever before. With the rise of social media, we are constantly bombarded with messages
from people and companies trying to sell us something. As a result, people have become
savvier about marketing tactics and are more likely to research products before making a
purchase. Additionally, the rise of fake news and disinformation has made people warier
about advertisers and their claims.

In conclusion, while advertising was once an effective way to influence consumers, the
current climate of constant ads has led to a phenomenon of advertising fatigue. Consumers
today are more likely to be sceptical of marketing claims and are more likely to research
products before making a purchase. Therefore, in my opinion, advertisements are not as
effective at persuading us to buy things as they once were.
Test 4 Task 2:

In some cultures, children are often told that they can achieve anything if they try hard
enough.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of giving children this message?

In different cultures, children are taught in different ways. They should be taught about life lessons
since their childhood so that they adopt it applying in their life. Children are often advised that they
can obtain anything with their hard work. In this essay the benefits and demerits of this lesson will be
discussed.

On the one hand, it is true that nothing can be gained without investing enough efforts. If we need to
reach a goal, dedication, planning and consistent hard work is essential. For example, Frida Kahlo, a
painter, who practiced painting using her mouth when she was paralyzed after an accident and
finally she became one of the best artists in the world. Similarly, there are many successful figures
who achieved success with their will and hard work. So we can say hard work pays off.

On the other hand, there are some things which cannot be acquired due to our luck. For example,
many miss the opportunity to study abroad due to visa issues even they study hard for it. We cannot
skip our fortune. If any child miss any opportunity due to his/her luck, she might be frustrated latter
as the mindset is built like anything can be achieved with hard work. As a result, the child could be
suicidal after failure. Despite this, it is mandatory to provide children teaching of working hard.

In conclusion, children should be taught about their consistent hard work to get their desired things.
Although the mindset can hamper them

Grammatical correct version………

In different cultures, children are taught in various ways. They should be taught life lessons from an
early age so that they can apply them throughout their lives. Children are often told that they can
achieve anything through hard work. In this essay, the advantages and disadvantages of this
message will be discussed.

On the one hand, it is true that nothing can be gained without putting in enough effort. If we want to
reach a goal, dedication, planning, and consistent hard work are essential. For example, Frida
Kahlo, a painter, practiced painting with her mouth when she was paralyzed after an accident, and
she eventually became one of the most famous artists in the world. Similarly, many successful
people have achieved their goals through determination and hard work. Therefore, we can say that
hard work pays off.

On the other hand, some things cannot be achieved due to circumstances beyond our control, such
as luck. For example, many people miss the opportunity to study abroad due to visa issues, even if
they work hard for it. We cannot escape our fate. If a child misses an opportunity due to bad luck,
they may become frustrated later, as they have been taught that anything can be achieved through
hard work. As a result, the child may even become depressed or suicidal after experiencing failure.
Despite this, it is still important to teach children the value of hard work.

In conclusion, children should be taught that consistent hard work is necessary to achieve their
goals. Although this mindset can sometimes hurt their confidence when they fail, children should still
be encouraged to put in effort to reach their goals.

Band 9 version

In various cultures, children are often encouraged with the belief that they can achieve anything if they
work hard enough. While this message can be highly motivating, it also has potential drawbacks. This
essay will explore both the advantages and disadvantages of conveying this idea to children.

On the one hand, instilling the belief that hard work leads to success can cultivate a strong work ethic
and resilience in children. They learn that persistence, dedication, and consistent effort are essential to
achieving their goals. For instance, the renowned artist Frida Kahlo, despite suffering from paralysis,
pursued painting using her mouth and eventually became one of the most influential artists in history.
This example illustrates that with unwavering determination, significant accomplishments can be made,
reinforcing the idea that hard work often pays off.

On the other hand, suggesting that hard work alone guarantees success can lead to unrealistic
expectations, especially when external factors come into play. Not all goals are achievable solely
through effort; circumstances such as socio-economic background, luck, or systemic barriers can impede
success. For example, despite rigorous preparation, some students may be denied opportunities to
study abroad due to visa restrictions, factors that are beyond their control. When children are led to
believe that failure is solely due to a lack of effort, they may experience frustration, diminished self-
esteem, or even mental health issues when they fail to achieve their goals.

In conclusion, while encouraging children to work hard is valuable in fostering determination and
perseverance, it is equally important to teach them that some outcomes are influenced by factors
beyond their control. A balanced approach that emphasizes effort but also acknowledges external
variables is essential for their mental and emotional well-being.

Model Answer 1:

In many cultures, children are frequently given the message that they can accomplish anything if they
work hard enough. While this message has some advantages, it also has certain disadvantages that must
be taken into consideration. This essay will outline both the advantages and demerits of this practice.
One benefit of this is that it can instill a sense of self-confidence and motivation in children. When
youngsters are encouraged to believe that they can achieve anything with effort and determination,
they are more likely to persevere through difficult tasks and setbacks. This can help them develop
important skills such as resilience, self-efficacy, and a growth mindset. For instance, a child who is told
that they can achieve anything they set their mind to may be more willing to take on new challenges,
even if they are initially daunting. If a child wants to learn a new skill or participate in an activity that
they are not yet proficient in, they may be more likely to try if they have the belief that they can
eventually succeed with hard work and perseverance.

However, there are also some potential drawbacks to this message. For one, it may set unrealistic
expectations for children, particularly if they are not given the necessary resources or opportunities to
succeed. Additionally, if children are constantly told that they can achieve anything through hard work
alone, it may lead them to overlook the role that other factors such as education, luck, privilege, and
societal structures play in success. This could ultimately result in feelings of frustration, self-blame, and
demotivation if they do not achieve the outcomes they desire.

In conclusion, while the message that children can achieve anything through hard work has its
advantages in terms of building confidence and motivation, it is important to consider the potential
drawbacks as well. It is hoped that parents and teachers would motivate young children to work hard
but also take into consideration other factors that are important for success.

Model Answer 2:

In today’s world, it’s common for parents to emphasize the importance of hard work to their children as
a means of achieving success. This view carries both advantages and disadvantages, depending on how
it is received. Both sides of this idea will be discussed in this essay with appropriate examples.

On the positive side, such encouragement can push children to work harder in school and is a very big
advantage. This is because students would prepare themselves in order to achieve their motives and
take up the challenge as they have set a positive outlook towards their goal. For instance, when kids
believe that putting in effort pays off, they may develop a strong work ethic, leading to better grades or
achieving personal goals.

However, there are drawbacks to this that some children may feel stressed trying to meet their parents’
expectations. This pressure could lead to anxiety or fear of not doing well enough. Moreover, it might
also take away from their enjoyment of being a kid. For instance, a child who feels constant pressure to
excel in school might struggle with sleep or mood swings. In extreme cases, it could even lead to
depression or burnout. Therefore, it is important for parents to notice if their kids are too stressed and
give them the help and support they need. By talking openly and giving them ways to relax and take care
of themselves, parents can make it easier for their kids to handle tough times and feel confident.

In conclusion, while encouraging kids to work hard can have benefits, it’s important for parents to find a
balance. By creating a supportive environment, parents can help their children strive for success while
also prioritizing their happiness and well-being.

Book 16
In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of
the house or building they live in. What are the reasons for this? How can people research this? Give
reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Home is a place where everyone feel most comfortable. In many countries, it is normal to be curious to
know about the place where they live. There might be some reasons behind this curiosity. This essay will
explore those reasons and find the ways how people can gather information about this.

Firstly, people are being curious to know about the history of their residents because they want to be
prepared of repetitive occurrence in the past. For example, they can take emergency preparedness such
as arranging a fire extinguisher, if there is any history of fire incidents. Moreover, many people purchase
readymade house where they have to continue if there is any legal case regarding the house or if the
previous owner did not complete mortgages installments. People who are renters are usually wanted to
know about previous tenant’s mistake so that they cannot repeat it and disappoint the landlords. This is
how they can be prepared for rapid response to any type of unwanted situations.

There are many ways to obtain information of the background of the accommodation such as landlord
who bought a house recently can communicate with every person from owner to law enforcement or
search in media or internet. For example, there must be records kept in police station nearby or article
written in newspaper if there is any significant crime like rape or murder took place previously in that
building. Furthermore, they can investigate by talking to the neighbors or local influential who could be
the witness of that place for decades. Thus the residents should gather data in every possible ways they
can.

In conclusion, it is appreciated to know thoroughly about the residence because it will help to secure
future by preparing for any challenge. People should use every methods to research about this so that
they can plan a perfect way forward. Thus, this will ensure their security and satisfy their curiosity.

Grammatical correct version

In some countries, people are increasingly interested in learning about the history of the house or
building they live in. This curiosity can stem from various factors, such as a desire for safety or
understanding the property's legal standing. In this essay, I will discuss why people may have such
interests and how they can effectively research the history of their homes.

One reason for this growing interest is the desire to ensure personal safety. For instance, if a house has
experienced past incidents like fires or floods, current occupants may want to take precautions such as
installing fire alarms or flood defenses. Another reason could be legal concerns. Homebuyers may wish
to avoid properties with unresolved disputes, such as unpaid mortgages or boundary issues, which could
complicate ownership. Similarly, tenants may seek to understand the behavior of previous renters to
avoid making the same mistakes and facing eviction or disputes with landlords.

There are several ways to investigate the history of a property. First, individuals can consult public
records, such as land registries or legal databases, which often contain details about previous owners
and legal matters related to the house. Local libraries or newspapers may also provide information on
any significant events, such as crimes or accidents, that occurred in the area. Additionally, speaking with
long-time neighbors can provide valuable insights into the property's past, as they might have witnessed
previous events firsthand. Lastly, the internet offers a wealth of resources, including historical property
databases and forums where individuals can share their experiences.

In conclusion, people's curiosity about the history of their homes is often driven by practical concerns
such as safety and legal security. By researching through various methods, such as public records, local
resources, and online databases, individuals can gain a clearer understanding of the history of their
property and ensure peace of mind for the future.

Band 9 version

In some countries, there is a growing trend of people becoming interested in uncovering the history of
the houses or buildings they reside in. This curiosity often stems from practical concerns, such as
ensuring safety or gaining a better understanding of the property’s legal standing. In this essay, I will
explore the reasons behind this increasing interest and suggest effective ways individuals can research
the history of their homes.

One significant reason for this heightened curiosity is the desire to ensure personal safety. For example,
discovering that a property has experienced previous structural damage due to natural disasters, such as
floods or fires, can prompt homeowners to take necessary precautions like installing additional safety
measures or strengthening the foundation. Beyond safety, people are also keen to avoid potential legal
complications. Purchasing a property with unresolved disputes, such as boundary disagreements or
unpaid mortgages, can lead to financial burdens and legal entanglements. By investigating the
property's history, homebuyers can make more informed decisions and protect themselves from future
legal issues. Renters, too, may seek to learn about previous tenants' conduct to avoid repeating past
mistakes, which could lead to strained relationships with landlords or even eviction.

There are several reliable methods individuals can use to investigate the history of their home. A
primary source of information is public records, such as those found in land registries or legal databases,
which provide detailed insights into past ownership, legal disputes, and other significant events
associated with the property. Local archives, including libraries and newspapers, can also offer valuable
historical context, particularly if the property has been involved in noteworthy events, such as crimes,
accidents, or significant renovations. Speaking with long-standing neighbors is another effective
approach, as they may have firsthand knowledge of the building’s past or previous occupants.
Additionally, modern technology offers online platforms where users can access historical property
databases or engage in forums where individuals share stories and information about specific homes.

In conclusion, the increasing interest in discovering the history of one’s home is often driven by practical
concerns related to safety and legal security. By utilizing a variety of research methods, including public
records, local archives, and online resources, individuals can gain a comprehensive understanding of
their property's history, which not only satisfies their curiosity but also provides peace of mind for the
future.

Model Answer 1:

Many citizens, nowadays, are inquisitive to learn about the home they live in as extensively as possible
primarily because they want to learn about the background and style of their house, assess the safety,
and find out if it is haunted. I believe nearby elderly citizens and the internet could be two invaluable
sources for such curious people to find the best possible information about their buildings.
The knowledge of the background of a house gives people a sense of self-satisfaction. This is why
people, especially those who live in a house that was built many years ago, are often interested to find
out more about the adobe. The background often includes how the house was painstakingly built in an
era when technology was not so advanced. Thus, exploring the background reveals some unique and
fascinating facts. For instance, it was a common misconception for many dwellers in the old part of our
city that their houses were built during the English colonial era. In fact, researchers recently found that
those houses were built mimicking the English styles but by the local masons. It was fascinating to finally
learn about it. Moreover, the construction and the built-quality of a house convey much information
about the safety and durability of the houses. Knowing such details could prevent people from facing
any disaster like falling victim to a collapsed house. Finally, some people superstitiously think a house
might be haunted if it has some bad history. Learning about its history often comes from their personal
belief and their motivation to either cleanse the house or move off.

To get proper information about the houses, people can talk to local senior citizens who had been living
there for quite a while. They can offer first-hand information about the building and much more details
that are not available elsewhere. On top of that, the internet could be another effective source to get
details of a house. For instance, many websites store data about the houses in the UK, and anyone can
find them online with just a few mouse clicks.

In conclusion, people's motivations to learn about their houses could range from safety reasons to
simple curiosity, from superstition to practical reasons. To get the best information they can contact
elderly locals and browse the internet.

Model Answer 2:

The history of a house or a building can be fascinating, sometimes daunting or even mesmerising at
times if we try to delve into it. For some people, learning about the history of the houses, in which they
live, is utterly important for various reasons. This essay attempts to outline some of those possible
reasons for this and a couple of methods to research this.

The first possible reason for many to become inquisitive about the past of their houses could be that
they actually want to find a connection, if any, between themselves and the buildings. Such connections,
or lack thereof, could actually provide an insight to them as to whether those buildings contained
anything “unique” at some stages of their existence that would make them- the people that is – feel
“special” among the others, or “different” from the rest of the crowds in their neighbourhoods. After all,
I think that it feels really good to remain at the centre of attention every now and then.

Some people would be interested to learn about the history of their buildings, especially how they were
built, or what kinds of materials were used to construct them because they want to make sure that the
buildings are safe enough for living. After all, nobody would want to put their lives at risk by choosing to
live in a “weak” building that was built with some “unreliable” materials about a century ago!

But, for whatever reasons that they want to learn about the history of their buildings, it is always better
that they ask the locals first to get their information about the former residents of their houses. They
could also contact the local municipality or the concerned local authority who could apprise them about
how the buildings were made. Finally, people could also visit a local library or the authority that keeps
the information about old buildings, to learn about the history of buildings in their respective areas.

To conclude, people are becoming more and more interested in the history of their houses primarily to
find a unique feature of it to feel special or to learn about the architectural style and safety features of
the house. They can contact local residents, municipality offices and the library to do the research work
required to find the history of their houses.

Model Answer 3:

It is increasingly becoming common practice for people in many places to be inquisitive about the
history of the houses or buildings they live in. This trend can be attributed to a variety of reasons,
including a desire to understand the cultural and architectural significance of one's home, as well as a
sense of personal connection to the past. In this essay, I will explore the reasons for this growing interest
in the history of houses, and discuss ways in which people can research the history of their homes.

The first reason for this growing interest in house and building history is a desire to understand the
cultural and architectural importance of one's home. People may be curious about the style of
architecture of their home and how it fits within the broader context of the neighbourhood or city.
Additionally, individuals may be interested in learning about the people who have lived in their homes
before them and the role the house has played in the community.

Another reason for this interest is a sense of personal connection to the past. People may want to know
more about the history of their home because they feel a sense of belonging and connection to the
place where they live. This can be particularly true for those who have lived in their home for many
years or inherited it from a family member.

People can research the history of their homes in a variety of ways. One way is to start by looking for
any historical records or documents that may be available through local historical societies, libraries or
archives. These records may include deeds, maps, and photographs that can provide information about
the home's history. Another good way to research the history of a home is to speak with long-time
residents of the neighbourhood who may have knowledge about the home and its history. Additionally,
people can research the history of the home by looking at census records, city directories, and
newspaper articles.

In conclusion, understanding the history of one's home can deepen one's appreciation for the place
where one lives, and provide a sense of connection to the past. It is believed that history and knowledge
about homes would be easily accessible in the future.

Test 2
In their advertising, businesses nowadays usually emphasise that their products are new in
some way. Why is this? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?

Test 3
Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many
health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to
consume less sugar. Do you agree or disagree?
Most researchers would agree that sugar is one of the major causes of chronic diseases like diabetes or
obesity. Food industries produce high amount of sugar containing product to make more profit in their
business.

The use of sugar is increasing rapidly in the food industries to make high amount of profit from
consumers. Most researcher would agree that this sugar is one of the major causes of chronic health
conditions such as diabetes or obesity. Despite this I disagree that increasing the price of sugar will
prevent consumers to buy it because it is addictive and the strategy will not work without raising
awareness.

Firstly, any processed food containing sugar is able to make addiction. For example, a study published in
America Dietetic Association showed that junk food is able to make consumers satisfied with fulfillment
by secreting dopamine for a short period of time, however after a certain period it creates hunger. What
this means is that the sugar in processed food increase immediately to high glucose level in blood which
is called glucose spike, again hunger arise when the trend fall down. As food containing sugar is so
addictive to the day-to-day choices of masses, it is clear that the cost will not be the matter to them.

In addition to this, people will not understand the poisonous impact of sugar containing food or drinks if
companies make them expensive only. For instance, on the cigarette packet it is written that smoking is
hazardous to health, however people still purchase them as they do not know how it poisons lungs
slowly. As a result the warning to consumer is completely useless if they do not realize the fact and be
conscious. Thus, raising awareness among the community and message dissemination by talking more
about the negative consequences of sugar intake through media is more important rather than hiking
the price of sugary foods.

In summary, people will consume processed foods and drinks produced by factories even the price is
increased as those are addictive and consumers are not aware about their

Gramatical correct::

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health
problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.
Do you agree or disagree?

Most researchers would agree that sugar is one of the major causes of chronic diseases like diabetes and
obesity. Food industries produce large amounts of sugar-containing products to make more profit in
their business. The use of sugar is increasing rapidly in food industries to generate large profits from
consumers. Most researchers agree that sugar is one of the major causes of chronic health conditions
such as diabetes or obesity. Despite this, I disagree that increasing the price of sugar will prevent
consumers from buying it because it is addictive, and the strategy will not work without raising
awareness.

Firstly, any processed food containing sugar can be addictive. For example, a study published in the
American Dietetic Association showed that junk food makes consumers feel temporarily satisfied by
secreting dopamine for a short period of time; however, after a while, it creates hunger. This means that
sugar in processed food quickly raises blood glucose levels, causing a glucose spike; hunger arises again
when the level falls. As food containing sugar is so addictive in people’s day-to-day choices, it is clear
that cost will not matter to them.

In addition to this, people will not understand the harmful impact of sugar-containing foods or drinks if
companies only make them more expensive. For instance, on cigarette packets, it is written that
smoking is hazardous to health; however, people still purchase them as they do not fully understand
how it poisons the lungs over time. As a result, the warning to consumers is completely useless if they

hiking the price of sugary foods.

Band 9 version

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health
problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar.
Do you agree or disagree?

It is widely acknowledged that sugar plays a significant role in the rise of chronic health conditions such
as diabetes and obesity. The food and beverage industry often prioritizes profits over public health by
producing large quantities of sugar-laden products. While increasing the cost of sugary foods and drinks
might appear to be a straightforward solution to reducing consumption, I believe that this measure
alone would be insufficient due to sugar's addictive nature and the need for greater public awareness
about its dangers.

One key reason for the failure of price hikes to curb sugar consumption lies in its addictive properties.
Numerous studies, such as one published by the American Dietetic Association, have shown that sugar
triggers the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure. This creates a temporary
sense of satisfaction, but as blood glucose levels rapidly rise and then fall, individuals are left craving
more. This addictive cycle compels consumers to continue purchasing sugary products regardless of
price, as they become reliant on the short-term gratification it provides. Therefore, while higher prices
may deter some, the majority will still seek out sugary foods due to their deeply ingrained dependence.

Additionally, merely increasing the cost of sugary products without addressing the public's awareness of
their harmful effects is unlikely to result in long-term behavioral change. For example, despite clear
warnings on cigarette packaging about the risks of smoking, many people continue to smoke due to a
lack of understanding about the cumulative damage it causes over time. Similarly, if consumers do not
fully comprehend the severe health risks posed by excessive sugar intake, such as diabetes, heart
disease, and metabolic disorders, a price increase alone will not be enough to alter their behavior.
Instead, widespread education campaigns through schools, media, and public health initiatives are
necessary to inform people about the risks and encourage healthier choices.

In conclusion, while raising the price of sugary foods and drinks might offer a temporary reduction in
consumption, it is unlikely to be a sustainable solution. The addictive nature of sugar, combined with a
lack of public awareness about its dangers, means that more comprehensive measures are required. A
combination of public education, clearer labeling, and perhaps even tighter regulations on the sugar
content in processed foods would be far more effective in addressing the root causes of the issue.
Test 4
In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside
these vehicles will be passengers. Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles
outweigh the disadvantages?

The use of technology is increasing rapidly in the modern world. Growing

technological influence can even be seen in the transportation system especially
it is predicted that the vehicles will be driverless in the foreseeable future. I
disagree that advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages . Analysing
the job vacancies due to technology-driven transports and increasing chances of
accidents will show this.

Firstly, a car powered by artificial intelligence would have difficulty controlling

the speed during emergency situation. For example, Tesla, one of the world’s
most advanced car, has trouble distinguishing simple human signals. If today’s
most advanced artificial intelligence driven car cannot categorise these basic
physical cues, it is difficult to believe that a car could be capable of controlling
speed and save the passengers in a dynamic road setting. Thus, this makes it
clear that an automated will have dangerous drawbacks to be operational
anytime in the near future.
Secondly, driverless transport would create unemployment crisis all over the
world. The American Labor Association plays a good example here. This widely
supported theory argues that a large number of people are losing their work
opportunity because of breakthrough of technology. As most would agree that
this revolutionary change will impact the family of divers economically, the
argument that benefits of driverless vehicles outweigh the drawbacks can be debunked.
In summary, an automatic transport would lack the road dynamism and close
the doors for driver professionals. Thus, it is clear why having a car run entirely
by a machine is an idea that will not be realized anytime soon. As this essay has
shown, the disadvantages of driverless vehicles are more significant than the drawbacks.
In the future, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read
everything they want online without paying.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

The use of technology is increasing rapidly in the modern world. Growing technological
influence can even be seen in the media especially now-a-days books and news are available
online. Despite this, I disagree that internet will completely replace printed books or
newspaper in the foreseeable future. Analysing the inability of online copies to both provide
the sensation of printed copies and the misconception of free of cost will show this.
Firstly, an online news websites or online published books will not be completely free
because the authors, reporters and journalist require their compensation for their job. For
example, The Economist, one of the world’s most popular news portal, ask for paid
subscription to read the regular update of economic condition worldwide. If people have to
pay to know about only one segment of news, they will obviously spend money to enjoy a
whole newspaper with a cup of tea. Thus, this makes it clear that online version of books or
news will not be operational without payment.

Secondly, news or books online is not able to establish the emotional connection with
readers. Individuals who are book worm plays a good example here. This widely supported
theory argues that they are most excited to buy a bundles of books from book fair to smell
the new pages. As most would agree expecting the same vibe from online version is
unrealistic, the argument that internet availability of news or books will replace hard copies
debunked.
In summary, online books lack the emotional attachment with book lovers and people will
purchase newspaper to spend a quality time refraining themselves from screen. Thus, it is
clear why reading entirely using internet will not happening anytime soon. As this
essay has shown, there will be still demand for the printed books and newspaper.
Some people think that instead of preventing climate change, we need to
find
a way to live with it. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nature is taking revenge frequently in the modern world. Changing climate

influence can even be seen in our day-to-day life. Despite this, I disagree that
we have to adjust with it instead of preventing. Analysing the inability adjusting
with climate change to increase more problems in future and suffer new
generation will show this.

Firstly, adjusting with the transformation of nature will not bring long-term
solution. For example, highest level of water was recorded in recent flood
situation in Feny, a district of Bangladesh. Though people arranged a large
amount of fund to support flood affected people, the sufferings will not
completely reduced due to the severe damage caused by this natural disaster. If
we do not immediately take some measures to prevent flood such as stopping
river evacuation, tree plantation and building bridge, it is difficult to believe that
we have ability to manage the damage in future. Already earthquake, firing in
the forest, draught, flash floods are taking many places where they never
happened. Thus, this makes it clear that a prevention is better than cure.
Secondly, our future generation will be the victim of our deeds if do not prevent
climate change. The American scientific theory of nature plays a good example
here. This widely supported theory argues that every act has its own feedback.
Natural elements are disturbed by the interruptions made by human beings
such as building high-razed buildings, industrialization, cutting down rain forest
and so on. As most would agree expecting positive feedback from nature is
unrealistic, the argument that nature will also adjust with us debunked.
In summary, natural calamities would take place in future more and affect our
heirlooms. If prevention steps are not taken, more disasters will come. Thus, it
is clear why people need to take essential way forwards to prevent climate
change. As this essay has shown, we need to take actions immediately to save
our nature.

1. As well as making money, businesses also have social

responsibilities.
what extent do you agree or disagree?

The concept of business has changed gradually over the years. Prioritizing
money influence can even be seen in the most successful businessmen. Despite
this, I agree that people not only can make profit but also serve society through
business. Analyzing the ability of a social business to both cater to empower
those who are under-privileged and instill development of country will show
this.

Firstly, a business which is developed with an intention to support poor

population has proven a significant impact on their living status.
For example, Dr. Muhammad Younus, Nobel winner, invented Grameen Bank to
provide micro credit for establishing a business to the people who are under
poverty and successfully considered as a change maker to improve the
economic status of a community. If today’s most of the countries invite the
scheme to run their sport or cultural event, it will address the problems of
marginalized people. Thus, this makes it clear that the social business is able to
ensure equality.

Secondly, a whole country can be benefitted from business which is not only
intended to make money. Developing country Bangladesh plays a good example
here. This widely supported theory argues that there are a lot of projects are
initiated to improve the skill of young generations who are unemployed such as
SEIP (Skill for Employment Initiative Project). The agencies who are providing
courses such as graphic designing, web development, digital marketing under
this project are not only taking money from government but also empowering
the unemployed graduates. As most would agree that these graduated will
again contribute the country through their own business, the argument that
business is solely for producing money can be debunked.

In summary, a social business has ability to change the economic status of poor
individuals and in fact bring development for the whole country. Thus, it is clear
that a good citizen can make profit as well as fulfill his social duties through
business. As this essay has shown, young generation should choose this
profession to serve the nation.

3. Most people have forgotten the meaning behind traditional or

religious festivals; during festival periods, people nowadays only want
to enjoy themselves. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this
opinion?
Many cultural and religious festivals are observed all over the world. These
festivals are the symbol of happiness and celebration. Despite this, I agree that
many people ignore the main purpose focusing only in enjoyment. It will be
shown by analyzing the fact of violating the right of poorer community and
waste of money and resources.

Firstly, traditional or religious festivals have their own purpose. For example,
Eid-Ul-Adha, widely observed festival by Muslim community, was initiated by
sacrificing the most favorite materials for Almighty and distribute it among
under-privileged people. However, now most of Muslims slaughter animals and
distribute only a small portion of meats among poor people which is not
appropriate in Islam. If people from today’s most advanced religion do not
abide by the rules, it is difficult to believe that the ancient festivals are
celebrated in the same way. Thus, this makes it clear that programs have lost
their root purpose.
Secondly, individuals spend a large amount of money unnecessarily on these
occasions. Bangladeshi ancient cultural event the Pahela Baishakh, Bengali New
Year plays a good example here. This widely observed event shows that billion
of dollars are spent on decoration and rally while it was intended for supporting
the village farmers from their debt. As most would agree that the expenditure
on these segments are totally unnecessary, argument that observer remembers
the root purpose can be debunked.

In summary, religious and cultural personals enjoy festivals grandly but

somehow the main cause is ignored. Thus, it is clear it causes unnecessary costs
and the real needy people are deprived. As this essay has shown, all should
realize the theme of these celebrations and work accordingly.
