Generation of computer: - The first electronic computer, the ENIAC was developed in 1945 but it looked very different from
the computer we see now days. There is five generation of computer.
3
First generation of computer: - (1949 – 1959) these computers had components made up of vacuum tubes. First generation
computers were very large and slow compared to present day computers. They could not run for long hours at a stretch, as
the vacuum tubes would get heated up very quickly.
Second generation of computer: - (1959 – 1965) in the 1950’s transistors were introduced as components in computer in
place of vacuum tubes. A transistor is 1/200 th size of a vacuum tube. The second generation was smaller in size but faster
and could be used for longer hours at a stretch.
Third generation of computer: - (1965 – 1975) in the mid-60s, more advances in computer technology led to the
development of the integrated circuits. These computers became faster and less expensive.
Fourth generation of computer: - (1975 – 1985) the fourth-generation computers are the modern-day computers. They are
made using very large-scale integrated circuits (VISI).
Fifth generation of computer: - (1985 – on words) are accepted to have artificial intelligence that means they have the
capacity to think of their own.
