IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or Activity 1: Derivative Relay Race
presenting the new lesson Directions: The teacher will divide the class into 3 teams.
How to play:
1. Each team forms a relay line.
2. The first row picks a function card and writes the alternative
formula of derivatives and hands the marker to the next
teammate.
3. The second-row substitutes and factor the function.
4. The third-row simplifies the function.
5. The last row computes the limit as h→0 to find the derivative.
6. First team to correctly complete three functions wins!
B. Establishing a purpose for The teacher will identify the context of the lesson and present to the
the lesson class the lesson objectives.
At the end of the lesson, the learner shall be able to:
A. understand the basic differentiation rules;
B. execute the derivation of the different differentiation rules; and
C. demonstrate appreciation of deriving differentiation rules.
C. Presenting The teacher will discuss the four basic differentiation rules.

new lesson Basic Differentiation Rules
1. Constant Rule: f ` (x) = 0
If f(x) = c where c is a constant, then f(x) =0. the
derivative of a constant is equal to zero.
2. Power Rule: f ` (x) = nx n−1
If f(x) = x n , then f`(x) = nx n−1.
3. Constant Multiple Rule: f ' (x) = k ∙ h’(x)
If f(x) = k ∙ h(x), where k is constant, then f ' (x) = k ∙
h’(x).
4. Sum & Difference Rule: f ` (x) = g(x) ± h(x)
If f(x) = g(x) ±h(x), then f ` (x) = g(x) ± h(x).

G. Developing Mastery Activity 2: Musical Derivatives
(Leads to Formative Directions: The teacher will play a music and when the music stops,
Assessment) the students will pick a card with function and quickly gives the
derivative orally.
H. Valuing Speed and Acceleration in Driving
Differentiation helps calculate velocity (v) from the position
function (s).
The second derivative helps determine acceleration (a), which
is essential for designing vehicles and improving safety.
Business and Economics
Finding practical Doctors use differentiation to analyze how fast drugs are
applications of
concepts/skills in daily
absorbed into the bloodstream.
living Example: The rate at which a medication dissolves or wears off
can be studied using derivatives.
Architecture and Engineering
Civil engineers use differentiation to analyze stress and strain
in buildings and bridges.
Architects apply differentiation to design curves and optimize
materials
Core Values Integration Excellence
Excellence in learning basic differentiation rules is essential because
differentiation is not just a mathematical skill—it fosters critical
thinking, problem-solving, and real-world applications.
Differentiation requires careful application of rules like
the power rule, product rule, and chain rule.
Learning differentiation strengthens reasoning skills by
requiring step-by-step problem-solving.
Excellence at the basic level ensures success in future

mathematical challenges.
Excellence ensures that learners can contribute
meaningfully to innovation and technology.
I. Making generalizations and The teachers summarize the four basic differentiation rules.
