1. Cut a plastic bottle in half.
Use the top half as the filter and the bottom
half as the container to collect purified water.
2. Place a layer of clean filter fabric at the neck of the bottle to hold the
filtering materials in place.
3. Add a layer of soft sponge above the filter fabric. This helps block
larger particles.
4. Prepare activated carbon by washing it 3-5 times to remove
impurities. Then grind it into a fine powder.
5. Pour the carbon powder on the sponge. This layer helps remove
chemicals and odors.
6. Place another layer of filter fabric on top of the activated carbon.
7. Wash the polished sand thoroughly, 3-5 times. Then add it over the
second fabric layer. Sand filters out finer particles.
8. Add a third layer of filter fabric over the sand.
9. Wash small stones 3-5 times then place them at the top. These help
trap larger impurities.
10. Mix tap water with dirt, dust, food coloring etc. to simulate dirty
water for testing the filter.
