ACTIVITIES vary.
Group 1: (Rotate and Revolve)
The students will draw a 2-by-2 table. They will define rotate and
revolve by arranging the definition given by the teacher.

REVOLVE ORBIT
Group 2: (Sorting)
The students will be given a mix of text and image cards for rotation
and revolution wherein they will organize their knowledge about a
concept. They have to be able to group pieces of information by how
they are the same.

earth around the sun.
E. Elaborate The teacher will discuss the following concepts. The students will
Earth- is that third planet from the sun, and the only planet cooperate and listen
known to have an atmosphere containing free oxygen, oceans to the teacher’s
of water on its surface, and of course life. It is the fifth largest discussion.
planet in the solar system and it’s smaller than the gas giants
—Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune—but larger than the
three other rocky planets, Mercury, Mars, and Venus. Earth is
not perfectly round. Earth is really an “oblate spheroid,”
because its spin causes it to be squashed at its poles and
swollen at the equator.
Sun – is the center of the solar system
Axis- it is an imaginary line wherein our planet spins around
on this invisible line. It goes from the North pole through the
Earth’s center and to the south pole. Earth’s axis is tilted.
Earth’s axis is tilted in 23.5 degrees from the planet of its
orbit around the sun.

Rotation- is the movement of the Earth on its axis. The Earth
rotates from West to East direction or in counterclockwise
direction. The Earth’s rotation causes day and night. It takes
about 24 hours or 1 day for Earth to make one complete
rotation.
Revolution- is the movement of the Earth around the sun.
The Earth revolves around the sun in a counterclockwise
direction. Earth travels around the sun in path or orbit. Earth
takes 1 year or 365 days and 1/4 day to complete 1 revolution
around the sun. The Earth’s revolution causes seasons on
earth.
Orbit- is an imaginary path around the sun. Earth’s orbit is
not circular, but it is elliptical in shape.
Leap Year- is a year where an extra day added to the end of
the shortest month, February. Additional day is added to keep
the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year or
season.
(To understand the leap year, the class will just add the
excess ¼ day or 6 hours to make this ¼ day accumulated in 1
particular year only once in every 4 years.)
Integration across the Curriculum Mathematics- Numeracy
(Expresses rational numbers from fraction form to decimal form vice
versa) M7NS-le-1
Earth’s movement is important to all living things on Earth.
As the Earth rotates on its axis and revolves around the sun,
each of its surface gets a turn face and be warmed by the sun.
The sun affects everything from the weather we experience to
the food we eat, and even our health.
(The sun has an important role in plant food making process
called photosynthesis)
Integration within the Curriculum (Science 9)
(Differentiate basic feature and importance of photosynthesis and
respiration) S9LT-lg-j-31
