Prepared by: Norguiana G. Adam. y

p
Topic: Characteristics and Properties of Sound Date:, March 08, 2024
Grade Level: 7 C
Timeframe: 1 hour
o
School: Agriculture High School
t
a
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of waves as a carrierb of energy.
Performance Standard: The learners should be able to conduct a forum on mitigation
a and disaster
risk reduction. t
o of wavelength,
Learning Competencies: Describe the characteristics of sound using the concepts
velocity, and amplitude.
K to 12 CG Code: S7LT-IIId-7
I. Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the students will able to:
a. explain the factors affecting the speed of sound; and
b. reason out how pitch and frequency; loudness and amplitude of a sound are
related to each other.
II. Subject Matter
a. Concept
You may be curious as to how sound is made. As living organisms, we are
surrounded by many sounds. Some are low but some are high. Some are soft but some are
loud. When we sing a song or when we tap on objects, we produce sounds. Sound enables
us to communicate with one another. In order to have a healthy communication we need to
consider how it is produced and its basic characteristics.

materials
III. Lesson Proper
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activities (3 minutes) (All students are actively participated)
• Prayer
• Greetings
• Checking of attendance
• Checking of homework
• Classroom rules
• Classroom management
B. Review (All students are actively participated)
“Before we start in our discussion this morning, let us have
our short review on what was our topic last meeting?” “our topic is all about a sound, we
discussed the how sound propagate and
which medium sound travels at fastest.”
“Yes, last meeting, we have discussed the sound, and how
it propagates in a different media. We defined the solids is
the media where sound travels fastest due to the
arrangement of its molecules. Since you already knew that
sound needs a media to propagates, then we can conclude
that sound is an example of what types of wave?” “sound is an example of mechanica l
waves, whose waves are required
medium to propagate that is in contrast
with EM waves where medium is not
require in order for it to propagate.
Meaning EM waves can travel in a
vacuum while mechanical waves
“Yes, very good. Sound is a mechanical wave. When we cannot.”
say mechanical wave, medium is needed for it to propagate
while the EM waves do not require a medium. With that
we can conclude the sound cannot propagate on a vacuum
but EM waves instead.”
“None ma’am”
“Do you have any question?”
“None ma’am”
“Clarification?”
ENGAGE (All students are actively participated)
“Since you have the limited idea about the factors affecting
the sound as well as the characteristics of a sound. This
morning we will going to discuss the concept on the
characteristics and properties of a sound. But let me present
to you our objectives.”
At the end of the lesson, the students will able to:
a. explain the factors affecting the speed of sound; and
b. reason out how pitch and frequency; loudness and
amplitude of a sound are related to each other.
“In order for us to attain our class objectives, observe and
brainstorm about the given picture,”
(the students do the activity)
“Okay, do you have an idea about the picture?”
“Alright reserve your idea, because I later on you’ll going “yes ma’am”
to share your idea in the class.”
EXPLORE (All students are actively participated)
“This time, I will group you into 10. So, let us count from
1 to 10 to form the group.”
(the students do the counting)
“Okay, go with your group, seat with them in the count of
10, 9, 8, ….
(the students go with their
“Now since you have your group, I will be projecting the group)
picture again and give you a printed copy and answer the
guide questions.”
1. How amplitude related to the loudness of a sound?
2. How wavelength is related to frequency and pitch?
3. How frequency and pitch related to each other?
“You are going to gather your idea as a group then
consolidate it. After consolidating the idea of a group, I will
be asking some group to share their idea or answer. Did you
get it?” “yes ma’am”
“For 10 minutes, do the activity with you group. Directions
was indicated in the given in a picture. But if you have a
question, then raise your hand so that I can entertain you.” (the students do the activity)
EXPLAIN (All students are actively participated)
“Alright, now we will be having a sharing of answer
in the class. I will pick some group then you will be
going to share your idea about activity. Is it crystal? ” “clear ma’am”
“This time, we will be going to discuss your answer and I “crystal ma’am”
will give some inputs to make our lesson clear. Is it clear?”
1. How amplitude related to the loudness of a (students do the activity)
sound? “the higher the amplitude, high sound;
low amplitude, low sound.”
“Yes, remember that amplitude indicates how loud (soft and
intense) the sound is and if there is a high amplitude, a high
sound can be hear.”
“loudness is how soft or how intense the sound is as
perceived by our ear and interpreted by the brain. And it is
related to intensity of a sound. The unit for sound intens ity
is decibel (dB) which was named after Alexander Graham
Bell.”
2. How wavelength is related to frequency and pitch?
3. How frequency and pitch related to each other?
Amazing class! You did it. It manifests that you are learning.
ELABORATE
What did you feel when you are listening to a soft
music? (students do the activity, some share
their idea and/or reflection in the class.)
What about music the is rock style?
EVALUATION (All students are actively participated)
Directions: Read and comprehend the questions
carefully. Answer it by writing the correct word. (the students do the activity)
Write your answer in ¼ sheet of paper. (2 points
Answer
each)
1. Who is the founder of decibel? 1. Alexander Graham Bell
2. It is a wave used by the physicians to see our
internal organ.
2. Ultrasonic/ultrasound
3. What do you call the vibrational frequencies 3. Ultrasonic/ultrasound
beyond 20, 000 Hz? 4. Infrasonic/infrasound
4. What about a sound with low frequencies below 5. Pitch
20 Hz? 6. 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz
5. A term used in describing how low and how high
the sound is known as .
7. Loudness
6. What range of frequency for sound to be 8. Audible sound
perceived by human ear?
7. Term used on the softness or intenseness of a 9-10. (any of this)
sound is . Atmospheric pressure, atmospheric
8. A sound that can be perceived by human ear is temperature, relative humidity
called .
9-10. give me at least 2 factors affecting the sound speed.
EXTEND (All students are actively participated)
For your assignment to be pass by next meeting.
Directions: List 5 examples of things/living organisms that is
under the category of:
Ultrasonic
Infrasonic
