GHANA HEALTH SERVICE MASTER FACILITY
LIST & GEOCODES EXERCISE
ORIENTATION & FIELD WORK
BACKGROUND
Spatial analysis can be essential to on-the-ground personnel working to save lives
because it enables them to prepare in advance for a disease and can severely limit the
impact.
Maps are powerful and popular data visualization tools that allow you to see to see
“patterns” in the data and to understand “spatial relationships” of public health.
The DHIMS2 software has a GIS module which is used for the visualization of data in the
form of maps to improve information usage.
The GHS in collaboration with the World bank and CHAI-Ghana is initiating processes
towards building a Master Facility Registry and geo-database integrated with DHIMS2
for the Ghana Health service.
As part of initial steps toward achieving this feat, all regions are to ensure that geocodes
are collected for all health facilities currently in DHIMS2 and those operational yet to be
added in DHIMS2.
