The given maps indicate the developments which take place in the central area of
the town called Islip.
Overall, it is evident from the comparison of the two maps that the central area of
Islip town will undergo some remarkable changes, with the construction of more
modern infrastructure and facilities such as a ring road around the centre and
various other developments with regard to shops and housing.
Looking at the map of Islip as it is now, we can see there is a main road which turns
across the town centre from the east to the west. The second map shows that the
road will be slightly widened and converted into a pedestrian zone. Currently, there is
a row of shops along either side of the main road, but it appears that the shops along
the north side will be demolished to make way for a bus station, a shopping centre, a
car park and new housing. The shops on the opposite side will remain the same.
It seems that the town’s park located in the south east will be reduced in size to
create space for the construction of more houses. The school in the south west will
be enlarged to meet the demand of the increasing student population. A dual
carriageway will be constructed around the town centre to improve traffic flow.
