Chapter 2: The Environment and Culture of Management

Definition:

Management ka environment aur culture woh factors hain jo kisi organization ke kaam,
decisions, aur performance par asar daalte hain. Environment ka matlab hai woh tamam
cheezen jo company ke bahar aur andar hoti hain aur usay affect karti hain. Culture ka
matlab hai company ke andar ka mahaul, logon ka kaam karne ka tareeqa, aur unki soch.

Real-World Example (CS/IT Related):

Ek software company ka socho jahan flexible working hours hain, log jeans aur T-shirts
mein aate hain, aur har koi apni opinion openly share karta hai. Is tarah ka environment
logon ko creative banata hai — yeh unki organizational culture hai. Lekin agar government
naye data protection laws laye, to company ko apne systems update karne padenge — yeh
external environment ka asar hai.

Detailed Explanation:

1. External Environment (Bahir ka Asar)

External environment wo cheezen hoti hain jo organization ke bahar hoti hain lekin uske
decisions aur operations ko directly ya indirectly effect karti hain. Isay do hisso mein divide
kiya ja sakta hai:

1.1 General Environment (Broad Level Factors)

Yeh un cheezon ka set hota hai jo sabhi organizations ko ek jaise effect karti hain:

• Economic Factors: Jaise inflation, unemployment, aur interest rates

• Technological Factors: Jaise naye softwares, tools, AI, machine learning
• Political/Legal Factors: Government policies, IT laws, data regulations
• Socio-Cultural Factors: Logon ki pasand, behavior, aur social values
• Global Factors: International market, trade wars, pandemics

Example: Agar AI tools popular ho rahe hain to ek software house ko bhi apne apps
mein AI integrate karna padega.

1.2 Task Environment (Specific/Direct Asar)

Yeh woh factors hain jo organization ko direct effect karte hain:

• Customers: Unki needs aur feedback

• Suppliers: Jo tools ya services provide karte hain (e.g., cloud services)
• Competitors: Jo similar products bana rahe hote hain
• Regulators: Jaise PTA, data compliance authorities, ISO standards

Example: Agar ek rival company naye features launch kare to hume bhi apne product
ko upgrade karna padega.

2. Internal Environment (Andar ka Asar)

Yeh environment company ke andar ke factors ko kehte hain jo manager ke control mein
hote hain:

• Employees: Unki skills, attitude, motivation

• Management Style: Kaise decisions liye ja rahe hain
• Organizational Culture: Values, behavior aur communication ka tareeqa
• Infrastructure: Offices, tools, software, hardware

Example: Agar ek development team friendly aur cooperative ho, to projects asaani se
complete ho jaate hain.

3. Organizational Culture (Company ka Androoni Mahaul)

Organizational culture ka matlab hota hai ek organization ke andar ka atmosphere ya

mahaul jisme log kaam karte hain. Is mein logon ke beliefs, kaam karne ka style, unki
language, communication aur dress code tak shamil hota hai.

Features of Organizational Culture:

• Shared values aur beliefs (jaise honesty, innovation)

• Communication style (formal ya informal)
• Attitudes toward time, deadlines aur change
• Rules and unwritten expectations (jaise team ka behavior)

Importance:

• Employee satisfaction barhta hai

• Productivity improve hoti hai
• Innovation promote hoti hai
• Turnover kam hota hai

Types of Organizational Culture:

1. Clan Culture (Family Type)

• Friendly environment, log ik dusre ki help karte hain

• Managers mentors hote hain
• Example: Small IT startups jahan sab ek team jese kaam karte hain

2. Adhocracy Culture (Creative & Dynamic)

• Risk-taking encourage hoti hai, naye ideas welcome hote hain

• Innovation main focus hota hai
• Example: Google, jahan naye ideas test kiye jaate hain

3. Market Culture (Result-Oriented)

• Focus hota hai targets aur results par

• Competition aur performance measurement zyada hoti hai
• Example: Sales-driven software companies jahan KPIs follow kiye jaate hain

4. Hierarchy Culture (Structured & Controlled)

• Strict rules, policies aur formal procedures

• Sab kuch defined hota hai (reporting lines, approvals)
• Example: Government IT departments, ya large corporates

4. Relationship Between Organization and Environment

Yeh dono aik doosre par depend karte hain. Isay "Open System" kaha jata hai — iska
matlab hai ke organization inputs environment se leti hai, unhein process karti hai, aur
outputs wapas environment mein bhejti hai.

Inputs:

• Employees, raw data, technology

Processes:

• Workflows, decision-making, development

Outputs:

• Software, apps, customer support

Feedback:

• Customer reviews, legal changes, market trends

Example: Ek company agar dekhe ke log unki app mein slow performance ka issue
raise kar rahe hain, to wo apna backend improve karegi — yeh feedback loop hai.

Key Points Summary:

• Environment do tareeqe ka hota hai: External (bahar ka) aur Internal (andar ka)
• External factors: Economy, technology, law, culture, customers
• Internal factors: Employees, management, infrastructure
• Organizational Culture: Log kaise kaam karte hain, unki soch aur values
• 4 Types of Culture: Clan, Adhocracy, Market, Hierarchy
• Organization aur environment ka strong feedback loop hota hai
