METAL CRAFT

WHAT IS METAL CRAFT?


 A FORM OF HANDICRAFT THAT USES VARIOUS METALS AS THE PRIMARY MATERIAL TO
CREATE DECORATIVE OR FUNCTIONAL ITEMS.
COMMON METALS USED:
 COPPER- One of the most commonly used metals craft, it is soft, flexible, and easy to shape.
 BRASS- A popular metal used in metal craft, it is a yellow-colored alloy made from copper and zinc.
 ALUMINUM- A lightweight, silver colored metal that is widely used in metal crafts.
 IRON- A heavy, strong, grayish metal used in traditional crafts and construction.
 STEEL- A strong made from iron, it is shiny, hard to break and doesn’t rust easily.
 SILVER- A precious, shiny white metal commonly used in metal crafts to create elegant and decorative
items.
 GOLD- A precious yellow metal known for its beauty, value, and resistance to tarnish.

EXAMPLE OF METAL CRAFTS


JEWELRY
 A wide variety of small, decorative items worn for personal and style. These includes necklace,
bracelet, rings and earrings.

METAL SCULPTURE
 A 3D art forms made entirely from metal. These can be realistic or symbolic and vary in size from
table top models to large installations

KITCHEN UTENSILS
 Everyday items used in cooking like spoon, fork, knife and ladles.

FURNITURE AND FIXTURES


 These are metal based home and office furnishing like chairs, tables, bed frames and lighting
fixtures.

COMMON METAL CRAFTS TECHNIQUES


CASTING
• A manufacturing process involving pouring molten metal into a mold allowing it to cool and solidify into
desired shape

FORGING
• A metal work process that shapes using localized compressive forces. This involves hammering or
pressing the metal into desired

WELDING
• Two or more pieces of metal are joined by melting their edges together, often with filler material.
SILVERSMITHING
• This specialized craft focuses on shaping and finishing silver. Silversmithing produces beautiful and
valuable items.

CUTTING
• A process of removing or separating metal into smaller pieces or specific shapes using tools and
machine.
