Year 3 Writing Tasks Week 2
This week’s writing is inspired by our book Ice Palace by Robert
Swindells. To help the author and improve the text even further we
would like you to create two setting descriptions.
Make sure you use the setting description success criteria at the end of
this document to help you.
Back in October we spent a long time working on a setting description
based around Roald Dahl’s chocolate room – it began “Mr Wonka
opened the door. Five children and nine grown up’s pushed their ways
in…”. We then wrote our own descriptions of our own chocolate
rooms. This description is in the folder which you can use to help you if
you need it – magpie words and sentences!
Task 1 – Create a setting description of either the village where Ivan
and his family lived or of the forest that Ivan is walking through. This
should be at least three paragraphs long.
And below are some images to help you with ideas.
Ivan’s Village
The Forest.
When you are writing a setting description the aim is to paint a
picture of the scene but instead of using paints and images using
words.
You will need to use – adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs and
prepositions.
I need to be able to see your scene in my head when reading your
words.
