ABSTRACT
PROJECT TITLE: PROPOSED SIX DOORS TOILET FOR THE KISUMU
NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC
REASONS FOR COMING UP WITH THE PROJECT.
The reason as to why I decided to come up with the project is because there is increased
population in the Kisumu National Polytechnic and there was need for additional toilet. It
was also from the ministry of health and National Environment Management Authority, due
to the Covid- 19 pandemics and also need for social distance. There is also malfunctioning of
sewer lines thus the rate of flow of waste is low. So we needed a modern toilet that will be
connected to main sewer line to improve on environmental hygiene within the are. Unlike the
current toilet which is connected to a septic tank.
PROBLEMS SOLVED BY THE PROJECT
Once the proposed project is commenced, there will be improvement in hygienic conditions
within the Kisumu National Polytechnic; it will reduce congestion in the toilet as there are an
additional number of toilets within the Kisumu National Polytechnic. Construction of six
doors toilet will help to adhere to the guidelines of Covid protocols. There will be proper
functioning of sewer line since the new toilet will have its own soil waste pipe.
KEY STAGE
i) Site investigation.
The site will be investigated by technical teams and check the water level of the land. This
will help us to know the type of excavation to use.
ii) Site clearance.
After the investigation one trained personnel together with two unskilled personnel's will
proceed to the site for clearance.
iii) Setting out.
After site clearance 3, 4, 5 methods will be used to set out the structure, where the
following tools will be used pegs, nails builder square, builder line and white powder.
iv) Construction process.
i
The wall will be constructed using bricks, other materials which will be used are cement of
about 50 bags, sand 12 tones, balast 25 tones. The slab area will be (5000 by 3000) mm.
ii
CLIENTS REQUIREMENTS
The Kisumu National Polytechnic intends to construct 5 door toilet within the school. This is
due to increased population in the institution and need for more rooms to avoid congestion.
They also thought it wise to ensure that the Covid rules are observed.
PLUMBING WORK
With the help of skilled plumber who will hired, he will help us in pipe fittings and
connection of service pipes to the taps and flushes in the toilet. He will also connect waste
pipe to sewer line.
SITE LOCATION OF THE PROJECT
The site will be located in between Building and Applied Science Department in The Kisumu
National Polytechnic.

CHAPTER ONE
1.1OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
To enrich general landscape of the school environment. Generally the concept aimed at
creating convenient function and attractive toilet block of the international standard that
will enhance clean environment, healthy learning and proper development of the student.
The proposed construction should be an outstanding architectural edifice
1.2 PRELIMINERIES
Site investigation-Technical teams together with NEMA representatives shall visit the site
to check compliancy to environmental conservation.
Site clearance- After the investigation site is cleared by use of man power and all the
debris are cleared away from the site.
Fencing and hoarding- This is done for the sake of the site privacy and security.
Excavation- This is done to create base for the floor foundation, slab and also for the pipe
work
1.3 PROPOSED SITE
The proposed site is located in The Kisumu National Polytechnic in between Building and
Applied science Department
1.4 BOOKING OF FIELD MEASUREMENT
Survey details are recorded in the field book, each plan expects single or two about 15mm
representing chain begin each line in the bottom of the page distributed around the chain
station placed between two ruled lines.

CHAPTER TWO
2.1 SOIL INVESTIGATION
In this chapter, soil samples are taken to lab for testing. Protractor comparison test, soil
bearing capacity, proper classification of soil sample is done.
2.2 SOIL BEARING CAPACITY
At 20km/m3 the result was found to be the bearing capacity of the soil sample after
calculating enhances the design the column base of building. From plasticity clay of low
plasticity.
