Sampling Distribution and Standard Error Calculations

The document presents statistical calculations involving a population of five members and their samples. It includes finding the population mean and standard deviation, the sample mean and standard error from sampling distributions, and the standard error of the sample mean from a selected sample of workers. Additionally, it discusses a formula for the standard error of the sample mean when selecting numbers without replacement from a defined set.

1. A population consists of five members 2, 3, 6, 8, 11.

Consider all possible samples of size 2 which

can be drawn with replacement from this population. Find: (i) The mean and s.d. of the population.
(ii) (Ans. 6, 3.29) The sample mean and S.E. of the sample mean (𝑥) from the sampling distribution of
(𝑥) (Ans. 6, 2.32)

2. A sample of 100 workers are selected from a population of 1000 workers. If the sample mean and
standard deviation of the weekly wages are Rs. 480 and Rs. 11 respectively, find the standard error of
the sample mean. (Ans: Rs. 1.04)

[Link] that if n numbers are selected at random without replacement from the set
(𝑁+1)(𝑁−𝑛)
{1,2,3, … . , 𝑁}, then S.E. of the sample mean is given by: √ 12𝑛
