Length is a measurement of how long an object is, or the distance between

two points. It can be measured using various units, including both standard
and non-standard units. Standard units, like meters, centimeters, inches,
feet, and miles, are consistently used and accepted. Non-standard units,
such as handspans or foot spans, can vary between individuals and
objects.

Standard Units:
 Metric System:
 Kilometer (km): Used for long distances, like the distance between cities.
 Meter (m): The base unit of length in the metric system, used for medium lengths.
 Centimeter (cm): 100 centimeters make up a meter, used for smaller lengths.
 Millimeter (mm): 10 millimeters make up a centimeter, used for very small lengths.
 Imperial/U.S. Customary System:
 Inch (in): A common unit, especially for smaller measurements.
 Foot (ft): 12 inches make up a foot.
 Yard (yd): 3 feet make up a yard.
 Mile (mi): Used for long distances, particularly in the UK.
Tools for Measuring Length:
 Rulers: Commonly used for measuring in centimeters, inches, and millimeters.
 Measuring Tapes: Used for measuring longer lengths and distances.
 Other tools: Depending on the specific measurement, specialized tools like calipers
or micrometers might be used.
Conversion between units:
 1 foot = 12 inches .
 1 yard = 3 feet .
 1 mile = 5280 feet: according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.
 1 meter = 100 centimeters .
 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters .
Length vs. Height:
 Length is generally a horizontal measurement, while height is a vertical
measurement. However, both are considered measurements of distance.
