St.1- Good morning everyone! A very warm


welcome to today’s assembly. Today isn’t just
another day — it’s a brand new page in the story
of who we are and who we’re becoming. Let’s
start this day with positivity in our hearts, energy
in our steps, and a clear focus on our goals.
Together, let’s make today meaningful, joyful,
and full of purpose.

boost our vocabulary and sharpen our minds)
One of the most common transport in Delhi NCR
is “Metro”. It is the cornerstone of Indian
transport. Metro is a fast, reliable, and eco-
friendly way to travel in cities. It helps reduce
traffic jams, saves time, and runs on electricity,
making it much cleaner for the environment.

The Metro connects people to schools, offices,


and homes of people all over the city. The man
responsible for this extraordinary breakthrough is
none other than E Shreedharan – The Metro Man
of India. Lets know a bit more about him through
a play performed by the young shining stars of
VIII D.

Reporter – Welcome watchers to India’s most


popular news channel, Kab Tak? Here we have
with us today the one and only, Metro man of
India, E Sheedharan. So, Dr., can you please tell
us about yourself and your efforts that have
revolutionized the transportation Industry in the
whole of India?

an engineer one day. I want to build things that

Father: That’s a good dream, my son. But dreams
need discipline. Do your duty well, and God will
guide you.

Narrator (steps forward): Born on June 12, 1930,


in the village of Punnapra in Kerala, Elattuvalapil
Sreedharan was raised in a household where
honesty, simplicity, and education were
treasured. He would go on to be a man of steel —
in vision and will.

(Lights fade on the family scene as the narrator


continues.)

Scene 2: The Railway Journey Begins (1953)

(Lights rise. A new scene at a Railway


Recruitment Board. Sreedharan, now in his early
20s, walks confidently.)

Narrator: After graduating in civil engineering


from Government Engineering College,
Kozhikode, Sreedharan joined the Indian Railways
as a junior engineer in 1953.

(Sounds of trains. He is now at a bridge site.)

Railway Official: We need someone to restore the


Pamban bridge. The cyclone has destroyed it.

Engineer: It’ll take months — maybe more.


Official: Call Sreedharan.

Sreedharan (entering): We’ll restore it. Not in six


months — in forty-six days.

Narrator: And he did. This marked the beginning


of an extraordinary journey — a man who didn’t
just build bridges of steel, but of trust and hope.

Scene 3: The Konkan Miracle (1990s)

(Scene changes to a conference room. Maps and


plans are on the wall.)

Minister: We want a railway line from Mumbai to


Mangalore. Through the Western Ghats.

Official: It’s too risky. Mountains, rivers, villages...


too many hurdles.

Sreedharan (studying map): Then we make a


way. We tunnel through the mountains, bridge
the rivers, and connect the coast.

Narrator: The Konkan Railway, one of India’s most


ambitious and difficult engineering projects,
stretched over 700 km and was dotted with 91
tunnels and over 150 bridges. Experts thought it
would take decades.
Engineer (worried): Sir, there are landslides.
Protests. Monsoons.

Sreedharan: No excuse is greater than the vision


we carry. We’ll complete it. On time.

Narrator: The Konkan Railway was completed in

Scene 4: Delhi Metro – A Dream Realised (1997 -


2011)

Minister: Mr. Sreedharan, Delhi needs a metro


system. Traffic is choking the city.

Sreedharan: We’ll build a world-class metro.


Clean, efficient, safe — and on time.

Narrator: In 1997, Sreedharan was appointed


Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail
Corporation. He took on a challenge few dared to
believe possible.
Engineer: Sir, this has never been done in India
before.

Sreedharan: Then we will be the first.

(Sounds of drills, construction. Metro signs


appear.)

Narrator: Against corruption, delays, and doubt,


the Delhi Metro was completed ahead of
schedule and under budget. Today, it is the pride
of the capital — clean, punctual, and safe — a
reflection of the man who built it.
