Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration - Class Notes
Photosynthesis
Occurs in the chloroplasts of plant cells. Converts light energy into chemical energy. Equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O
-> C6H12O6 + 6O2
Cellular Respiration
Occurs in mitochondria. Breaks down glucose to release energy. Equation: C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 +
6H2O + ATP
Comparison
Photosynthesis stores energy; respiration releases it. Opposite equations. Both are essential for the energy
cycle in living organisms.
Diagrams
Include chloroplast and mitochondrion diagrams, showing input and output pathways.
