Overview

1 Overview
Reyrolle Language Editor is a Windows based application. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows XP SP2 or later, Windows Vista
and Windows 7.

Reyrolle Language Editor provides a convenient way to view and edit the language file used by the relay.

This guide provides a brief overview of how to use Reyrolle Language Editor, from creating an initial project to using the new
language on a Reyrolle relay.

1.1 File Types

The following file types are used by the application:

File Type/Extension Description

Reyrolle Language Project (.rlp) A Reyrolle Language Project is the main file used by Reyrolle Language
Editor. A new Reyrolle Language Project is created by selecting a pre-
installed template to base the file on. The Reyrolle Language Project file
contains all of the project data in a single file.
Language File (.lng) File that contains only the translations to apply. This is stored on the device.
If the language file does not exist, it will be created automatically. It will also
be updated each time a change to the project is saved.

1.2 Using Reyrolle Language Editor from Reydisp Manager

Some of the functionality documented in this manual is not applicable when Reyrolle Language Editor is launched from Reydisp
Manager. For more information on using Reyrolle Language Editor with Reydisp Manager, consult the Reydisp Manager manual.

2.3 File Manager

The File Manager allows language files to be both sent to the device and retrieved from the device. It is accessed by clicking
Manage Language Files on Relay or Send Existing Language File to Relay from the splash screen, or by
clicking FileSend Language File to Relay.

Figure 2 - Reyrolle Language Editor File Manager

A list of language files stored on the device is displayed in the window, showing the name, size and last time the language file
was modified. From this window it is possible to send language files to the device, delete language files from the device and to
get language files from the device.

2.3.1 Setting up Communication Parameters

If the device is connected via the front USB port, the File Manager will attempt to automatically connect to the device. However,
if it fails to connect, or the device is connected via a different port or a password has been set, the communication settings need
to be configured by clicking the Comms Settings button. The communication settings that have been configured are displayed
in the status bar at the bottom of the File Manager form.

Note: All passwords are 4 characters long. If a shorter password is entered, it will be padded with spaces until it is 4 characters
long.

Figure 3 - Reyrolle Language Editor Comms Settings

The Communication Settings form allows the connection method to be specified – serial port for serial/USB or Ethernet for
IEC61850 capable devices. If a password is set, it must be entered here otherwise the file operations will fail with an invalid
password Click OK to use the configured settings.

If the connecting via USB, the Baud rate and parity settings are not required and are greyed out. The station address
setting is not used when connecting via USB. When connecting via a serial port, the Baud rate and parity settings must
match the settings used on the device or communications will not be possible. When connecting via a serial port, it is important
that the Station Address setting matches the Station Address setting on the device’s communication settings for that
COM Port. If the Station Address settings do not match, communications will not be possible.

It is also possible to send the language file via Ethernet. To do this, select Ethernet as the Communication Type. The IP
address must be set to match the relay by clicking Override IP Address and entering the correct IP address. The Station
Address setting does not matter when connecting via Ethernet.

2.3.2 Manage Language Files on Relay

Existing language files on the device will be shown when the File Manager window is first shown, if the communication
parameters are correct. The list of files can be manually refreshed by clicking Refresh List. There are two options regarding
existing files – get or delete.
To delete a language file from the device, select the file in the list and click Delete File. A prompt will be displayed to confirm
if the file should be deleted. Once the file is deleted, the list will be refreshed. This operation cannot be undone!
To get a file from the device to the PC, select the file in the list and click Get File. This will prompt where to save the language
file.
Once the language file has been saved a prompt will be displayed. The file can then be stored on another device if required, or
used inside another project. See Import Existing Language File.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 9

Starting Reyrolle Language Editor

Note: After deleting a language file, the device needs to be restarted to apply the changes.

2.3.3 Send Existing Language File to Relay

To select which file to send, click on … and select the language file to send. If the communication parameters have been setup
correctly, press Send File and the file will be stored on the device. The file list will be refreshed and the new file will appear in
the list of language files stored on the device. If a language file with the same name already exists, it will be replaced with the
new file.

Note: After sending a language file, the device needs to be restarted to apply the changes. A restart prompt will be shown after
sending a language file. To restart later, press the Restart button.

2.4 Using the Language File on the Relay

The relay must be restarted to detect the new language files. This can be done by clicking the restart relay button. After a few
seconds the relay should restart. Please note that the relay will take a while to restart and the language editor will not be able to
communicate with the relay until it has finished restarting. Do not try to send more files to the relay until it has finished
restarting.

Once the relay has restarted, the language can be selected from the SYSTEM CONFIG menu on the relay. Navigate to the
Language setting and select the language you wish to use. The relay will restart in the selected language.

2.5 Restart Device

To restart the device, click Restart. A confirmation prompt will be shown.

Figure 4 - Reyrolle Language Editor Restart Device Prompt

Clicking Yes to the prompt will restart the device. The language setting will change if any language files have been added or
deleted. Any language files that have been changed will be re-read during startup and the translations applied.
Restarting the device will take a short time. Wait until the device has restarted before performing any other actions with the
Language Editor.

3 Using Reyrolle Language Editor

Once a project has been created it can be edited. The main window is split into 5 tabs. Each tab serves a specific purpose.

Figure 5 - Reyrolle Language Editor Settings Text Tab

3.1 Settings Text

Most of the customisable text that is required is required for relay settings. To make finding each setting easier than searching a
list of thousands of rows, the settings tab displays the device settings hierarchically in a tree, similar to Reydisp Evolution.
The tree on the left is the original text and is read only. The tree on the right is the alternate text and is editable.

The settings are displayed in a tree view.

Figure 6 - Reyrolle Language Editor Settings Text - Editing Values

There are three different icons used in the Settings Text view.

Setting Type Description

A menu contains multiple settings. Expanding the menu will show the
Menu settings it contains. The name of the menu can be changed.
The name of the setting can be changed. A list of user-definable values used
by the setting is also shown in the box on the right. These can also be
changed by entering the alternate text in the table on the right. Clearing the
Settings with Definable alternate text will revert the setting value to the original text.
Options
In the example above, the Setting Dependencies setting has possible values
of Disabled and Enabled. The text for “Disabled” and “Enabled” can be
changed. This change will affect any other settings with values of “Disabled”

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 11

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

or “Enabled”.
This is a setting such as a numeric setting, where the name of the setting
Setting with Fixed Options can be changed, but the values of the setting cannot be changed.

To edit the name of the settings in the tree, select the item by clicking then click on the item again to put it into edit mode.
Alternatively, press F2 to change the name of the setting. All references to this text will be updated after editing.

To edit the setting value in the table on the right, click on the Alternate text cell on right to select it then click again to put the
cell into edit mode. Alternatively, press F2 to change the setting value text.

The Expand All button expands all menus. The Collapse All button collapses all menus.

Note: The alternate text is limited to 20 characters by default. This is to prevent longer lines being used than the device supports.
To change this, see Options. Any alternate text longer than 20 characters will be shown in red to act as a warning that it should
be checked to ensure it displays correctly

3.2 Meters Text

The meters tab displays the instrument meters that are visible on the device by navigating to the INSTRUMENTS MODE screen.

Figure 7 - Reyrolle Language Editor Meters Text

Meter Type Description

HMI Text The text that is visible on the LCD fascia of the device.
The text that is displayed for the meter in Reydisp Evolution.

On the device, there may be a heading, for example, “Primary Current” with
Reydisp Text meters called “Ia”, “Ib” and “Ic”. There may be another meter with a heading
of “Secondary Current” with meters “Ia”, “Ib” and “Ic”. In Reydisp Evolution,
each meter is displayed individually without any header, so there would be
multiple meters with the same name – “Ia”.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 12

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

To avoid confusion in Reydisp Evolution, the Reydisp Evolution text for the
primary Ia meter would be set to “Ia Primary” and the secondary to “Ia
Secondary”.

To edit the name of the meters in the tree, select the item by clicking then click on the item again to put it into edit mode.
Alternatively, press F2 to change the name of the setting. Both the HMI text and the Reydisp Evolution text can be changed
independently. All references to this text will be updated after editing.

Note: Any changes made to a meter name will be reflected in all meters sharing that name. Below, the meter name “Ia” has been
changed to “TEST1234” and all other meters with the name “Ia” have also been renamed to “TEST1234”.

Note: The alternate text is limited to 20 characters by default. This is to prevent longer lines being used than the device supports.
To change this, see Options. Any alternate text longer than 20 characters will be shown in red to act as a warning.

Figure 8 - Reyrolle Language Editor Meters Text - Editing Meters

The Expand All button expands all meters. The Collapse All button collapses all meters.

3.3 Misc Text

Miscellaneous text displays any text that is not present in either the Settings Text or Meters Text tabs.

Clicking on the either the Original Text or Alternate Text headings will sort by that column. Clicking the heading again
will reverse the sort order.

To change the text for any item, click on the Alternate Text cell on the right. If the alternate text is deleted, the original text
will be used.

Note: The alternate text is limited to 20 characters by default. This is to prevent longer lines being used than the device supports.
To change this, see Options. Some text on the device is displayed over multiple lines and therefore requires more than 20
characters. The text “\t” indicates a line break in the text. The “\t” will be replaced by a new line character when the language file
is loaded.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 13

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

Figure 9 - Reyrolle Language Editor Misc. Text

The list of miscellaneous text can be quite large, so a filter can be used. As you type, the list is filtered to match the filter text. In
the example below, “Trip” has been entered and the number of rows has reduced to show only those items containing the text
“Trip”.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 14

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

Figure 10 - Reyrolle Language Editor Misc. Text Filtering

There is also a find function. Enter the text to search for, in the original text, alternate text or either side and select whether the
search should be case sensitive then click Find. The matching cell is highlighted. Clicking Find again will find the next match.
After reaching the end of the list, the search will continue from the start.

3.4 All Text

This is exactly the same as Misc Text apart from it shows all text including the text shown in Settings Text and Meters Text.

3.5 Log
The log tab shows a log of all changes made to the language project since opening. This is useful to see which text has been
changed. The latest operations are displayed at the bottom of the list.

Figure 12 - Reyrolle Language Editor Log Tab

3.6 Notes
The notes for the project are accessed by clicking FileNotes. It allows notes to be stored about the project.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 16

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

Any notes or revision information may be entered in the Notes. Click OK to save changes and return to the main window.

3.7 Import Existing Language File

If an existing language file exists, the translations used in it can be imported into another project. This is useful if there are
several different models of devices in use and similar language files are required on each.

Click FileImport Existing Language File and select the language file to copy the translations from. Any translations
in the language file will be applied to the current project.

3.8 Send Language File to Relay

To use the language file, it must be stored on the device. This can be done from the splash screen for an existing language file, or
directly from the File menu from the main Reyrolle Language Editor window. Click FileSend Language File to
Relay.

If any changes have been made since the project was last saved, a save prompt will be shown.

The Send Language File form will be shown. See Send Existing Language File to Relay.

3.9 Saving
To save a project, click FileSave (CTRL+S).This will save the changes made since last time. An updated language file (.LNG)
will be generated based on the text that has been entered.

It is possible to save the project to a different location by clicking FileSave As.

3.10 Options
The options dialog is accessed by clicking OptionsOptions and has two tabs – Basic and Advanced.

Siemens Protection Devices Limited 17

Using Reyrolle Language Editor

3.10.1 Basic Options

Figure 14 - Reyrolle Language Editor Basic Options

By default, any new text entered is restricted to 20 characters. Any text over this length must be checked on the relay to ensure it
displays correctly. The basic tab allows the maximum character restriction to be removed. This may be required for editing some
text, especially if text is split over several lines.

3.10.2 Advanced Options

Figure 15 - Reyrolle Language Editor Advanced Options

The advanced options tab has a set of filters. Ticking the boxes will hide all rows containing those characters from the All Text
and Misc Text tabs.

By default, only the @ and underscore _ filters are applied. This helps reduce the list of rows dramatically as items containing @ or
_ are generally not required in creating a new language file. Hyphens - and full stops . can also be filtered out if required but
care should be taken as items containing –or . may be used by the device to display text.

The character limit can also be changed in here. The default is 20 characters. It is recommended the advanced options are used
with care as some settings will not display correctly if they are over 20 characters in length.

The Create Language Template button is used to create new templates. As templates are available for each relay, this
functionality should not be required. Creating a language template requires advanced access to the relay. If this functionality is
required, please contact Siemens Protection Devices Limited for support.
