MRI-Based Breast Cancer Diagnosis Enhancement

This paper discusses the enhancement of breast cancer diagnosis through modality-specific information disentanglement from MRI images. It proposes a model that utilizes machine learning and artificial intelligence to improve the classification of breast lesions, aiming to reduce false positives and unnecessary biopsies. The work emphasizes the importance of multimodal approaches in breast cancer diagnosis to achieve better patient outcomes.

Enhancing Breast Cancer Diagnosis Using Modality-

Specific Information Disentanglement from MRI

Abstract:
Breast cancer is still a cause of significant morbidity and mortality in women
across the world, highlighting the pressing need for superior diagnostic
methods. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has emerged as a key modality in
the diagnosis of breast cancer because of its high sensitivity as well as imaging
of soft tissue structures. However, the challenges associated with MRI,
including a higher false-positive rate and variability in performance compared
to breast density, necessitate the development of new methods that improve
diagnostic accuracy. This paper explores modality-specific information
disentanglement from MRI images in a bid to improve the classification of
breast lesions into malignant and benign types. By combining state-of-the-art
computation methods, including machine learning and artificial intelligence,
with MRI scans, we here suggest a model that maximizes the interpretability of
high-complexity imaging data. Our method does not only aim at minimizing
unwarranted biopsies and anxiety among patients but also tries to maximize
patient management plans based on more precise diagnosis. Additionally, there
is some mention of merging MRI with the potential to complement or substitute
with other imaging methods, and its role is stressed, highlighting multimodality
importance in diagnosis against breast cancer. Last but not least, the current
work has been directed toward contributing to augmenting better outcomes for
detecting as well as treating breast cancer.
