Example 1

A Krispy Kreme restaurant wants to schedule its 8 staff under consideration of the following constraints:

- Each employee works 5 days per week and must take 2 consecutive days off
- If the pair Saturday-Sunday is among the pairs with the lowest requirement, preference
goes always to the pair Saturday-Sunday off
- If the pair Saturday-Sunday is not among the pairs with the lowest requirement, select the
pair that minimizes the number of different schedules

Please fill out the schedule and calculate the slack capacity for each day. How many different work

Example 2

A country store wants to schedule its 5 workforce to meet its staff requirement plan. Please schedule
the workforce in order to minimize total slack capacity, under consideration of the following constraints:

– Each employee works five days per week and needs to take two consecutive days off

– If the pair Saturday-Sunday is among the pairs with the lowest requirement, preference
goes to the pair Saturday-Sunday off
– If the pair Saturday-Sunday is not among the pairs with the lowest requirement, select
the pair that minimizes the number of different schedules
