Below are the key areas & questions to pay attention during the Credibility interview:

1. Why the student has selected WGU over the other universities: Each student is expected
to give a detailed answer which outlines multiple reasons for selecting our University over the
other options. If a student gives only two or three reasons, I would not be able to pass them in
the credibility interview.

2. The geographical location of WGU: Each student should be able to explain the geographical
location of our University clearly. They should know that there are four countries within the
United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) and that we are located near
the town of Wrexham in the North Eastern part of Wales, bordering England.
Manchester (Since last intake most students are stating that Manchester is 50 minutes; even
last Sunday a student stated the same. Please correct this immediately) is at least 1 hour's
drive from our University, whereas Liverpool is at least 45 minutes by car from our University
and Chester is at least 20 minutes by car from our University. They should also know the
address of the University. Not knowing the exact location of the University has been cited in
visa refusals. Hence I want to be absolutely sure that each student knows the geographical
location of our University in detail.

3. Career plans after completing studies: This is a very important area; most visas are refused
because students are not able to provide a clear rationale in terms of linking their intended
programme of studies to their career plans. The below areas must be covered by each student
attending the credibility interview:

 The titles of the jobs that they will get after completing studies.
For example, if a
student is going to pursue MSc in Computer Science, they should be able to mention
job titles such as programmer, software developer, systems architect, software

Engineer, and so on. Similarly, if a student is going to do MBA, they should be able to
mention contextualized job titles (this should be in relation to their previous work
experience and/or studies e.g. Food Science graduate applying for MBA should talk
about management jobs related to catering, food manufacturing, etc., a Mechanical
Engineering graduate applying for MBA should talk about management jobs related to
manufacturing, production, quality assurance, etc.); an MBA student cannot give a

(There is no such thing as management sector; what we get is IT sector or Banking


sector or manufacturing sector i.e. the term sector indicates a division of business; it
cannot be used to describe a management position).
 The companies where they could work: Students can mention that they would like to
gain relevant work experience in the UK under the Graduate Immigration Route (GIR).
However, their primary focus should be on the companies that they could work for in
India. These companies should be relevant to their field of studies and previous work
experience. For example, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate who has been working in
the banking sector should not give the names of large IT companies such as Infosys,
TCS, and Wipro; instead, they should talk about banking and finance companies such
as ICICI, Axis, and HDFC.
 The salary: Students should be able to state the realistic salaries they would get per
annum in the above companies when they return back to India.
 Sources of information: This is a new area checked by Visa Officers. Ideally, students
should have called up the HR departments of a few companies and spoken to them
about employment prospects in their chosen area. However, this is not a practical
proposition. Hence, I expect students to at least mention the websites from which
they have obtained information about their employment opportunities; this is a
must.
 Students who want to start a business or join family's after MBA: If they are planning
to start their own business after MBA, they should be able to explain their business
concept, the source of funding for establishing the business (e.g. parents), the
number of people they are going to employ, and so on. On the other hand, if they are
going to join their family's existing business after MBA, they should be able to explain
the nature of their family's business and as to how they are going to contribute to
their family's business or the role that they would play (e.g., managing the finance
department or expanding the business geographically or into a new line).
 Linking studies to career prospects: This is a very important area. Students should be
able to link their intended programme of studies to their preferred area of
employment or business opportunity. In other words, they should be able to link the
knowledge and skills that they would gain out of the programme modules (course
modules) to their future career prospects.

4. Oral fluency: Students coming for the interview should be able to explain their thoughts,
ideas, and reasons in a continual manner without any struggle.
