Human Rights Law – Module-wise

Preparation Plan
Module I: Introduction
 1. Study the meaning, concept, and theoretical foundations (Natural Law).
 2. Understand the historical evolution of Human Rights across time periods.
 3. Focus on the classification into three generations: civil-political, economic-social-
cultural, and solidarity rights.
 Key Questions: Define Human Rights, history, and development; write a short note on
the three generations of rights.

Module II: United Nations and Human Rights


 1. Review the UN Charter and its relevance to Human Rights.
 2. Learn about key UN bodies: Human Rights Council, Sub-Commission, Commission on
Women, etc.
 3. Understand the role of the UNHCR and the UN High Commissioner.
 Key Questions: Role of UN bodies, short notes on UNHCR and Human Rights Council.

Module III: International Human Rights Instruments


 1. Focus on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) and its legal status.
 2. Study ICCPR and ICESCR – content, protocols, and implementation.
 3. Memorize the structure of the International Bill of Human Rights.
 Key Questions: Characteristics of UDHR, content of ICCPR and ICESCR, short note on the
International Bill of Human Rights.

Module IV: Human Rights in India


 1. Understand fundamental rights and Directive Principles related to Human Rights.
 2. Application of international HR law in Indian context.
 3. NHRC – powers, functions, and effectiveness.
 4. Rights of vulnerable groups and contemporary issues (e.g., technology, terrorism).
 Key Questions: Role of judiciary, NHRC, Protection of Human Rights Act, rights of
vulnerable groups, case laws.
