Title: SoC with safety and security features for Industry 4.0
Abstract: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is transforming every
important aspect of life including education, healthcare, government, commerce and defense.
Computer Architects exploited the Moore’s law and Dennard Scaling and discovered the
innovative techniques to scale processor performance. The Functional safety ensures the
correct operation of automatic protection when there is a failure of the system due to human
errors, inherently developed systematic errors, hardware failures and environmental stress.
Functional Safety focus on electrical, electronic and programmable systems controlling
mechanical systems like actuators, valves and motor controls. Security of SoC/Hardware
Security has got several dimensions like counterfeiting, hardware Trojans and Debug
security. Hardware Trojans/any such malicious activity and Debug security aspects are tightly
connected with Functional safety.
In this research work, we primarily address the open research problems in the above-
mentioned topics.
Keywords: Moore’s Law, Dennard Scaling, Functional Safety, Hardware Security, Hardware
Trojan, counterfeiting.
Problem Statement: Designing of SoC with functional Safety and security features.
Hypothesis: Functional Safety and security are important applications in the development of
the processors for the AUTOSAR and AVIONICS. Here we will discuss the designing and
implementation of functional safety and the security along with the optimization of power,
area and increase the reliability which we could both the functionalities on to a single
processor. Here we are designing the optimized processor for safety and security using the
cadence tools.
Objectives:
1. Designing of the functional safety and security processor mainly for AUTOSAR and
Avionics.
2. Application of the functional safety and security for the critical application in the
medical devices.
