Tutorial 8: MA 406: Partial Differential Equations

1. Solve the following PDE:-

(a) p 1 − q 2 = q (1 − z) (c) p2 − y 3 q = x2 − y 2

(b) p2 + pq = 4z (d) q (p − cos x) = cos y

2. Solve the following PDE (complete integral):-

(a) 2x z 2 q 2 + 1 = pz (e) z = p2 − q 2

(b) z 2 p2 + q 2 = x2 + e2y

(f) 2 (y + zq) = q (xp + yq)
(c) x2 p2 + y 2 q 2 = 4z 2 (g) p2 x + q 2 y = (z − 2px − 2qy)2
(d) x4 p2 + y 2 zq − z 2 = 0 (h) 4xyz = pq + 2px2 y + 2qxy 2

3. Find the complete integral of the following PDE using Jacobi’s method:-

(a) f (p1 , p2 , p3 ) = 0 (e) x3 (x3 + p3 ) = p21 + p22

(b) p1 x21 − p22 − ap23 = 0 (f) p1 + p2 + p3 − p1 p2 p3 = 0
(c) p = (z + qy)2 (g) x1 p21 + x2 p22 − x3 p23 = 0
(d) (p2 + q 2 )x = pz (h) p21 + p2 p3 − z(p2 + p3 ) = 0
