Business Math-Standardized formulas Module 2
I was able to interview an old coworker and friend at a very successful salon
I used to work at and I came to realize that he utilizes standardized formulas
every day and that plays a substantial part in his business being successful.
Gary, thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I have been told you
are the owner of Ellie’s Total Image here in Eureka,CA. Can I ask you a few
question on how you use standardized formulas in your salon?
Yes of course. We use several standardized formulas primarily for hair
coloring and treatments. For hair color, we have a specific mixing ratio of
developer to color that we follow closely.
Do you have a specific ratio that you use while mixing the colors.
We use a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio, depending on the product and desired outcome.
We also keep a color chart that details the mixing instructions for each
shade.
Do you have standardized formulas for any other services?
Yes! For hair treatments, like deep conditioning, we have a specific blend of
products standardized to ensure the best results. We mix a specific amount
of the treatment product with a carrier, usually a bonding base, depending
on the client’s hair type.
How do these formulas help in providing services?
They help maintain quality and consistency. When clients return, they can
expect the same results, which builds trust. It also streamlines our training
process for new staff.
Is there ever need to adjust these formulas for individual clients?
Absolutely. If we need to cater to specific hair conditions, we might adjust
the treatment formulas slightly. However, we always document these
adjustments to keep a record.
That is very organized! How do you ensure that your staff is trained in using
these standardized formulas?
We provide comprehensive training sessions and have a step-by-step
guideline available.
Staff can refer to our manual, which includes the standardized formulas and
any necessary adjustments.
Thank you for sharing this valuable information! It sounds like standardized
formulas help in your everyday work environment at the salon.
They really do, it’s all about ensuring our clients leave happy and satisfied.
More than this is that when they return, they get the same treatment as
prior and using standardized formulas is a great way to make sure they stay
happy and coming back!
Well it has been a pleasure Gary thank you again for your insight and time.
