My group presented on the topic of Social Movement on the Internet which was about

how people use the internet and social media to make changes in the world. I learnt that

movements such as #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter started online and became very big. I think

this topic is important because I use the internet every day, and now I understand that it can be

used to help people speak up and fight for their rights. For example, I saw how hashtags helped

people from different places to share their stories and come together. I believe that this is

powerful because I used hashtags before just for fun, but now I know that they can start big

changes. I think that using social media for good things such as speaking against unfairness or

helping people is something good and I would like to try it too. This topic is important to me

because I want to support causes that help people and now, I know I can do that online. In my

whole life I have been following many people on social media but now, I want to follow more

groups that are doing good work.

I listened to another group which presented on the topic of Data Privacy in the Age of

Social Media. I learned how websites and apps collect our personal data and use it in making

money. I was shocked also to learn that some companies sell our information and that we can be

watched online without us knowing. For example, TikTok was fined for using data from kids in

the wrong way. This topic matters because almost everybody including me use social media for

their personal things and should now understand to be careful about what they do online. This

topic also matters because our private information should be protected and if someone misuses it,

we can be in danger of being spied on or identity theft. I believe that we all need to learn to use

passwords, turn on two-step verification and also read privacy terms and conditions.

We had challenges like finding time when all of us were free because we were all busy

with classes and work. Sometimes a group member could not reply in the group chat or replied
late which delayed the group activities. We also had different ideas about what to include in the

slides as some people wanted to add more pictures while others wanted to add more writings.

Another challenge was that a group member could miss a meeting and when they join the next

meeting, we were forced to explain everything again to them before starting the meeting of that

day which really took a lot of our time. To fix this, we made a group video call where everyone

shared their thoughts, we divided the work clearly and each person was given a role helping us to

work better a s team.

If I can give suggestions to improve group work in this course, I would suggest that it

would be good if during the class hours, students were given maybe 15 to 20 minutes to meet in

their groups. This would help everyone to talk and work better together with everyone being

available and also help the teacher to check in with each group.
