Human trafficking has been a concerning issue that has been widespread in some countries. It
consists of harassment, forced labor, killing of innocent individuals, forcing people to indulge
into inappropriate acts etc. Victims' pain is exploited for profit, and the trade benefits from
people's fragility, lack of resources, and ignorance. It is a serious human rights violation that
affects millions of people all over the world and continues to be a major challenge for
governments, organizations, and society at large.
The delegation of the Russian Federation believes that Human Trafficking is a serious crime and
shall be handled with the respective level of punishment based on its intensity in situations.
Russia has always advocated for solutions for Human Trafficking and has implemented many
laws and legislations within its country as well. Russia has always been focused on the legal
aspects of eradicating human Trafficking. In the December of the year, 2000, Russia Had signed
the UN convention which aims to go against the Transnational Organized Crime, well-known as
the Palermo Convention. Followed by it ratifying both the convention and its protocols in 2004.
An example of how Russia is involved in the process of eradication of human trafficking, not
only within itself but also with other countries is, the conference of 2006 held in the month of
January in Moscow, that included participants from the region's countries as well as members of
the parliament, government agencies and business organizations, and international organizations.
This conference included countries discussing solutions for human trafficking. It concluded with
a national action plan for Russia to assist it in its law enforcements and security systems
concerning Human trafficking. The Russian Federation has also signed and ratified the UN
Protocol to Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons along with more than 95% of its sub
clauses. This shows Russia’s commitment to working towards finding solutions to completely
eliminate Human trafficking.
The delegation of Russia would like to propose a few solutions it deems viable and feels would
leave an impactful effect on human trafficking eventually excluding it from the world we live in.
Efforts should be made to implement peace-making within countries to solve existing conflicts
from the past and which are already there as well to inherit more peace and unity within
countries around the world, overall improving decision-making as well. Efficient Laws and
policies to be implemented within countries with efficient security measures to monitor the same,
UN could be an observer for. Collaborative treaties should be signed by countries working
towards ending human trafficking for good, and if any such exist, every 6 months, conference
sessions should be held to discuss solutions for problems that occur during the transition phase
towards a better and safer future. Russia has always advocated for peacemaking as its first and
foremost priority and will continue doing so.
