While we more frequently see traditional stop-light intersections, research on the


usage of roundabouts shows that they are significantly safer for cars, pedestrians,
and cyclists in many cases. They greatly reduce the chance of T-bone collisions,
usually the main cause of fatalities. And, roundabouts can also keep the traffic
flowing in many directions, as there is no need to stop, only slowdown or yield.
Now, stoplights may still be installed at urban roundabouts for example for
pedestrian crossings, but the safety improvements are still noteworthy.
A series of roundabouts might mean that drivers won’t see red lights for a few
kilometers depending on the region they’re driving in.
