Tower Silos
Tower silos range in size from 4 to 48 meters in diameter and 3 to 40 meters in height. Tower silos can
be built out of concrete, steel, or wood. Tower silos are the most popular type of silo. Using air slides or
augers makes it easier to remove grain, woodchips, or cement from silos. It can be discharged into rail
cars, vehicles, or conveyor belts.
1. Bunker Silos
Tractors and loaders are used to fill and pack bunker silos, which are trenches. Concrete walls are used
to construct bunker silos. The bunker silos are covered with a plastic sheet to create an airtight seal. The
materials from the bunker silos may be loaded onto a tractor or loader.
2. Bag Silos
Grain and livestock are stored in bag silos. It is constructed from plastic or hermetic tubes or bags. Bag
silos range in size from 2 to 21 meters. The amount of material that will be stored determines the silo's
height. One of the most affordable silos is the bag silo.
ADVANTAGES
Compared to other storage options, storage silos are less expensive.
Compared to horizontal storage warehouses, storage silos consume less space.
Products are stored in optimal conditions.
Disadvantage
Intoxication comes from the storage of fumigants and pesticides in silos.
Inflammable fumes are created when grains kept in silos decompose. If inhaled, these fumes cause
asphyxia and might be poisonous.
Silos result in the buildup of carbon dioxide, which when opened suffocates people.
