Title/Topic/Reading Introduction to the Study of Globalization

Overview/Introduction It is a common belief that globalization plays a role just at international


levels of trade and commerce, but the fact is that it has played an
important role in making our lives much more comfortable too. The
phones, apparels, gadgets and accessories that we use in our day to day
life are be available to us through globalization, and more importantly it
has helped in bringing international peace and justice to mankind.

Learning Objectives ✔ Recognize the forms and aspects of Globalization;


✔ List down the advantages and disadvantages of Globalization;
✔ Appreciate the importance of Globalization;
✔ Create a poster that manifest the relevance of the Four (4) forms of
Globalization in the world.

Discussion GLOBALIZATION
- is a term used to described the changes in societies and the world
economy that are the result of dramatically increased trade and cultural
exchange.

FOUR (4) FORMS OF GLOBALIZATION


1. EMBODIED GLOBALIZATION- refers to the movement or
migration of people.
2. AGENCY-EXTENDED GLOBALIZATION- deals with the
dispersion and exchange of agents or representatives of various
institutions, politics and organizations.
3. OBJECT-EXTENDED GLOBALIZATION- involves the mobility
of goods, commodities, and other objects of exchange such as machinery,
money, and food items.
4. DISEMBODIED GLOBALIZATION- covers the diffusion of ideas,
knowledge and information such Confucian philosophy and good study
habits across the world.
According to sociologist ANTHONY GIDDENS “GLOBALIZATION”
is the intensification of worldwide social relations which link distant
localities in such a way that local happenings are shaped by events
occurring many miles away and vice versa.

ASPETCS OF GLOBALIZATION
1. ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION- refers primarily to international
business which covers all contracts and negotiations.
- it involves economic resources, including human power and capital.

2. SOCIOCULTURAL GLOBALIZATION
-two components:
a.) CULTURAL GLOBALIZATION- the spread of ideas, values, and
meanings across countries.
b.) SOCIAL GLOBALIZATION- covers the diffusion of beliefs,
practices, and issues concerning population growth, media urbanization,
tourism and education.

3. POLITICAL GLOBALIZATION
- this involves institutions, public policies, and practices that cut across
national borders to facilitate international agreements and transactions.

4. NATURAL ENVIRONMENT GLOBALIZATION


- this concerns the environment where the interaction of living species
takes place.
