ACT 1
Scene 1: Arrival at Misselthwaite Manor
Narrator: (Spotlight) Once upon a time, in a faraway land called India, lived a lonely little girl
named Mary Lennox. Spoiled and sour, she had no friends and was cared for by servants.
When her parents died of illness, Mary was sent to England to live with her mysterious uncle
in Misselthwaite Manor.
(Lights up on Mary arriving at the Manor. She looks cold and annoyed.)
Mary: (Grumbling) This place is dreary. Why must I come here?
Martha: (Cheerfully enters) You must be Miss Mary. I’m Martha, the maid. You’ll like it here
once you get some fresh air in those lungs.
Mary: (Snaps) I don’t like it. It’s cold and boring.
Martha: (Laughs gently) There’s a big garden out back. They say one of them is locked.
Hasn’t been opened in ten years.
Mary: A locked garden? Why?
Martha: (Whispers) Lady Craven, your uncle’s wife, died there. He locked it up, buried the
key, and no one’s seen it since.
Martha: (Sitting beside Mary) I used to play near that garden when I was little. It always felt
special.
Mary: Tell me more about her. Was she kind?
Martha: Very kind. And full of laughter. This house lost its joy when she passed.
Narrator: Intrigued by this mystery, Mary found her days a little less empty.
---
Scene 2: Mary Explores the Manor Grounds
(Mary walks alone in the garden. She sees a robin.)
Mary: Hello, little robin. Are you the only one who’ll talk to me?
(She follows the robin to a spot with something shiny.)
Mary: What’s this? A key?
Narrator: Indeed, it was a key. Mary had stumbled upon the key to the secret garden.
(Music swells. She finds the door covered in ivy.)
Mary: This must be it! (Opens it slowly and peeks inside)
Narrator: And so, for the first time in ten years, the Secret Garden opened its arms once
more.
Ben: (Watching from a distance) What’s this now? The little miss found the old door.
Ben: (To himself) I always said the garden wasn’t truly dead.
Ben: (Approaches Mary) You be careful in there. That place holds memories.
Mary: Are you Ben Weatherstaff?
Ben: Aye. I’ve tended these gardens longer than you've been alive. But this one... this one
was special.
Ben: (Looking emotional) It was her garden. Lady Craven’s. She talked to the roses like they
were her children.
---
Scene 3: Meeting Dickon
(Dickon is in the garden, feeding birds. Mary enters.)
Mary: You must be Martha’s brother.
Dickon: Aye. And you’re the lass who found the secret garden, eh?
Mary: I haven’t told anyone.
Dickon: Good. It’s a place for things to grow—plants, animals, and maybe even people.
Mary: Will you help me bring it back?
Dickon: With joy.
Dickon: (Looking around) The soil’s tired but not gone. We can coax it back to life.
Mary: I’ve never gardened before.
Dickon: That’s the magic. You learn as you grow.
Dickon: (Laughing) And maybe I’ll teach you how to talk to the robins.
(Music plays as they start tending the garden together.)

ACT 2
Scene 4: The Cry in the Night
(Nighttime. Mary hears a strange sound.)
Mary: What’s that noise? It sounds like someone crying.
(She follows the sound. Finds Colin lying in bed.)
Colin: Who are you?! Don’t look at me! I’m sick and dying.
Mary: You’re not dying. You’re just lonely like me.
Colin: I don’t go outside. I’m too weak.
Mary: Then come to the garden. It healed me. Maybe it will heal you too.
Colin: The garden? But father never let anyone speak of it.
Mary: He doesn’t have to know.
Colin: (Softens) Do you promise to take me there?
Mary: I promise.
Colin: Then maybe I can believe in something again.
Narrator: From that night on, Mary visited Colin every day.
---
Scene 5: A Garden of Miracles
(Mary, Dickon, and Colin sneak into the garden. Ben watches from behind.)
Colin: It’s... beautiful. I can breathe out here.
Dickon: Try to stand. Lean on me.
Colin: (Struggling) I... I’m standing!
Mary: You did it, Colin!
Ben: (Steps out) I knew this garden still had magic.
Ben: (Proudly) Look at you, Master Colin. That’s a sight I never thought I’d live to see.
Colin: Thank you, Ben. You always believed, didn’t you?
Ben: I did. But I never dared say it.
Dickon: (Clapping) You’re stronger than you know, Colin.
Colin: (Laughing) I want to run! I want to run in the sun!
Martha: (Entering quietly) I came to see if it were true. And it is. You all look happy.
Ben: (Tearing up) It’s like the old days, when laughter filled this place.

ACT 3
Scene 6: Mr. Craven Returns
Narrator: Far away, Mr. Craven had dreams of his late wife, calling him back to the garden.
(Mr. Craven enters the garden and stops in shock as he sees Colin running.)
Mr. Craven: Colin?! You’re walking?
Colin: Running, Father! Thanks to Mary, Dickon, and the garden.
Mr. Craven: My heart... it’s healing too.
Mr. Craven: (Looking around) I shut this place away with my grief. But you’ve opened it again
—with love.
Ben: (Nods) The garden needed you too, sir.
Mr. Craven: And I needed it more than I knew.
Colin: Can we keep it open? For everyone?
Mr. Craven: Yes, Colin. Let it be a place of hope.
Narrator: And so, the secret garden brought life, love, and light back to Misselthwaite Manor.
All Characters: (Together) The Secret Garden lives again!
Narrator: Where once there was silence and sorrow, now there is laughter and bloom. And it
all began with a girl, a key, and a garden.
(Curtain closes.)
I've added more dialogues for Colin, Dickon, Martha, Mr. Craven, and especially Ben to
ensure they have a stronger presence in the play. Let me know if you'd like me to update
