Exercise Log

As part of our fitness and nutrition unit, students have been instructed on the benefits of daily exercise.
Exercise plays a huge role in decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, stroke, and
osteoporosis. We encourage teens to develop healthy exercise habits while they are young and to set
lifetime fitness goals.

For this assignment, students get to keep track of their daily activities. Daily activities are not limited to
actual workouts but should include any time when the student is active for longer than 10 continuous
minutes. For the next 2 weeks, students log the type of activity as well as the duration. Students should
take their heart rate before, during, and after the exercise. At the very least, students should record
their heart rate at the end of the activity.

Upon completion, students get to discuss their experience in the next assignment. Students should
discuss if it was easy or hard for them to exercise for 10 minutes per day. What parts of this experience
they enjoyed and what struggles they faced. Students should discuss what effect, if any, exercise has had
on their physical, emotional, mental, social, and spiritual wellbeing. Students should create an exercise
plan that will help them overcome those struggles and will assist them in meeting their lifelong fitness
goals.

Max HR (220-age)=204___________ Target HR (60%-80% of Max)=_115-125__________

Record what you did, how long you did it, and your Heart Rate before, during and after.

NOTE: Students often ask which exercise is best? The answer is always the same: Whichever one you’ll
do. This could be walking, running, yoga, Pilates, biking, weightlifting, etc. The goal is not too do too
much. The goal is to do something, anything that gets you moving.
