Stop Ozone Layer Depletion: Key Actions

Aalia and Divyana host a discussion on stopping ozone layer depletion with guests Siddhika, an environmental scientist, and Riddhima, a climate activist. They explain the importance of the ozone layer, the main cause of its depletion (CFCs from human activities), and suggest actions individuals can take, such as using eco-friendly products and spreading awareness. The conversation emphasizes that collective small actions can significantly contribute to protecting the ozone layer and the planet.

Aalia: Good morning, everyone! Welcome to today’s special

discussion about a very important topic: how to stop ozone layer
depletion. I'm Aalia Manocha

Divyana: And I'm Divyana Gupta. Joining us today are two special
guests who will help us understand what we can do to protect the
ozone layer. Please welcome Ms Siddhika, an environmental

scientist, and Ms Riddhima, a climate activist. Let's get started!

Aalia: Thank you both for being here today. Siddhika, can you start

by telling us what the ozone layer is and why it's so important?

Siddhika: Of course! The ozone layer is a protective shield in the

Earth’s atmosphere. It absorbs most of the Sun’s harmful

ultraviolet (UV) radiation, preventing it from reaching the Earth’s

surface. Without it, life on Earth would be exposed to dangerous
levels of UV rays, which can cause skin cancer and harm animals
and plants.

Divyana: That sounds serious! Riddhima what are the main causes
of ozone layer depletion?

Riddhima: The main cause is human activity, especially the use of

chemicals called chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs. These were
commonly found in products like air conditioners, refrigerators,

and aerosol sprays. When CFCs reach the upper atmosphere, they
break down the ozone molecules, thinning the ozone layer.

Aalia: So, we know what’s causing the problem. But what can we

do to stop it? Siddhika could you share some ways we can help
protect the ozone layer?

Siddhika: Absolutely! One of the most important things we can do

is stop using products that contain CFCs and other harmful

chemicals, like certain cleaning products and aerosol sprays.
Governments have already banned CFCs in many countries, but we
still need to be careful about the products we choose.

Divyana: That’s a great point. Riddhima, what can we do at an

individual level to help?

Riddhima: At home, we can use eco-friendly products and energy-

efficient appliances that don’t release harmful chemicals. We can
also support policies and campaigns that aim to protect the

environment. Simple actions like reducing energy use and

recycling can make a big difference too.

Aalia: It seems like there are many things we can all do to help
stop ozone depletion. Is there anything else you’d like to add,
Siddhika?

Siddhika: Yes, we should also educate others about this issue. By

spreading awareness, we can ensure that more people take action
and help preserve the ozone layer for future generations.

Divyana: Riddhima , any final thoughts?

Riddhima: Just remember that every small step counts. If we all do

our part, we can help heal the ozone layer and protect the planet.

Aalia: Thank you both for sharing such valuable information with
us today! It’s clear that by making smart choices and taking

action, we can help stop ozone layer depletion.

Divyana: Yes, thank you! And to our listeners, remember,

protecting the ozone layer is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s all

do what we can to keep our planet safe.

Aalia: That's all for today. Have a great day, everyone!
