INTRODUCTION/RATIONALE

In recent years, the pervasive influence of social media on adolescents’ mental

OBJECTIVES

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between


social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes among adolescents.

Specifically, the study aims to examine the frequency and duration of social media use

among adolescents across different platforms and assess the impact of social media

use on various dimensions of mental health, including but not limited to depressions,

anxiety, self-esteem, and body image. In addition, exploring the underlying mechanisms

through which social media may affect adolescent mental health, including social

comparison, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and exposure to idealized

images and lifestyles and provide recommendations for parents, educators, mental

health professionals, and policymakers to promote healthier social media habits and

mitigate potential negative effects on adolescents’ mental health. By achieving these

objectives, this study aims to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of

the complex interplay between social media and adolescent mental health, thereby

informing targeted interventions and policies to support the well-being of young people

in the digital age.
